I will not be getting a car for about 6 to 8 years. I can tell you it will be a AMG maybe a CLK55 or the next gen E class AMG. I will be something fast though.

It will have to be a P-car, preferably 96-98 993 C4S in either Polar Sivler or Speed Yellow.

For me, next would be a 500e. but inbetween, When I decide I can, I'll pick up a 300td Wagon. I love those 70's-80's diesel wagons.

I just want one to tinker with, rebuild and fix, and drive when I need to haul lots of stuff, or when I just want to go for a drive in a wondefully built tank of a vehicle for a nice long cruise.

Either way, its gonna be a benz..

Let's see. Front wheel drives are out of question so that leaves out 95% of the garbage out there. I like serious robust engineering so American cars are out of the question, too. Japanese piece of **** does not enter my garage so that leaves only German and English automobiles. I would not spend 300K $ on a luxury car so Rolls is out of the question and Jaguar is owened by Ford so that eliminates this possibility, too. Which leaves me with German choices only. They are all good except VW which falls into the front wheel drive category mentioned before so it is also crossed out. So do some Audi models. I am left with Porsche and BMW/MB. I see no point driving a Porsche in the US highways with the given speed limits as I do not wish to support my local police department and Highway Patrol so I am left with BMW and MB. Unfortunately MB carries the Chrysler logo in its brand name so it is also out of the question. I would not spend $40K on a car that is even remotely associated with a Chrysler.
Therefore, BMW gets my vote but it will have to be either 5 or 7 series as I do not wish to be associated with the 3 series young and stupid yuppie culture.

Of course, if cost is not an object then I can care less about a BMW. Give me an Aston Martin. Any Aston Martin

I have a few choices. For me, I would like to take a P-car tub, put flares on it, a whale tail, make it look like a turbo. Then 335 tires, junk the fuel injection and install two banks of webers, and finally a twin tip exhaust like the 930.

A Ferrari 348 is "affordable" if things work out.

The more sensible option is a 210 car. Blah... I think the wife would prefer this one.

I think the optimum combination would be a 280GE and a C32. Good combination of durability, comfort, speed.

I looked at a Golf GTI the other day, just looked, didn't drive. It's not bad. Next year they're supposed to be coming out with a 200hp model. I know it's front wheel drive which I have my reasons for not liking so much. Why do you guys dislike front wheel drive.?

Kuan be very careful of a 348 they can eat you alive. Being in the twin cities I am sure their are many independent mechs but these things can be a nightmare.

I have a friend that purchased a low mileage car inspected by an authorized Ferrari dealer and sunk some 20K in electrical and frond end work before he got it drivable enough to sell.

I it were me I would be looking at a 328 or Later model Lotus unless you feel like reengineering the 348.

Yeah I was reading about the early 348's in Forza a few issues back. They say though that the later ones are much better... kinda reminds me of the M-Class. I really really doubt I'll ever get a Ferrari. I'm just too practical but hey, if you're gonna dream might as well dream big right?

I will always remain loyal to Mercedes-Benz, but there are a few others that I'd like to have in my stable one day:

-Rolls Royce Silver Shadow II (late '70s)
-Jaguar E-Type (series II or III with 4.2 or 5.3 V-12)
-Ferrari 400i
-Porsche 911 or 930 (late '70s or early '80s)
-Maserati Quattroporte
-Camaro SS (late '60s)
-Olds 4-4-2 (1970 with W-30 package)
-Pontiac GTO (1967, hardtop only)
-Austin Healey 3000 Mk.III

As for MBs I'd like to own, I'd have to say the following:

-500E
-Gelandewagen (preferably an older 5 cylinder diesel with manual transmission)
-AMG Hammer (the 1980s rocketship, bred from a 124 chassis)
-600SWB (the W100 chassis with the M-100 motor)
-600SEL (W140 chassis, 12 cylinders)

Cars I've had which I regret having sold:

-Austin Healey 3000 Mk.II (triple carbs)
-Triumph TR6
-Jensen Interceptor Mk. III
-DeLorean DMC-12
-240D!!!!!!!

I just bought one, so my '95 E420 is my next car. I'm thinking about an E55 in 3-4 years to keep it company.
