It doesn't sound like free speech is first and foremost on their minds, anyway.
“Sleeping beside the hardcore activists are increasing numbers of wealthy students turning up to make the most of the party atmosphere, drugs and free food,” reporters Paul Bentley and Micela McLucas wrote in October. “While they dress down to blend in, the youngsters’ privileged backgrounds are revealed by glimpses of expensive gadgetry or the absent minded mention of their private schools during heated political debates.” |

Are they coming to occupy my $120,000 spec-home or take away my paid for used cars? Or maybe raid my pitiful 401K? What are they planning on doing to me?

Or are they coming to pee on my lawn and ask for free food?

This is true. NYC is not all Manhattan. You could maybe do well in one of the other boroughs. Families have been doing it for generations.

I admire anyone who stands in solidarity with those protesting how we got nationally raped by Wall Street, I don't care if their from Yale or jail. Keep up the good work!

This is in Manhattan, in the "good" area near Columbia U (i.e. not in the ditch below Morningside park). You may be able to find something even cheaper if you're willing to go further uptown -- Inwood. |

It amazes me that we gave these guys millions for free, and the right wingers want to somehow characterize the OWS as people looking for a free hand out, or "rapists" and all the other drivel they throw at these peaceful protestors who at least have the guts to speak out while the rest of the middle class sits home and watches their 401ks evaporate as their jobs go to India. Bytch about a free sandwich, yet let the guys who raped us for millions, and now have done nothing in return, get nothing but a free pass. And the right wingers want us to think the problem is these bankers need a tax cut and less regulation. How come these bankers are not being levied a special tax to pay back their free billions, and the billions they made on 0% interest loans they have been getting since '08 ? Well, the answer to that is easy, because the Tea Party blocks any attempt to get the dough, because they and their politicians, and their phony "movement" are bought and paid for by Wall Street. What else have they done in Congress since they got there? Created jobs? No. Expanded the economy? No. Helped millionaires avoid paying for the mess they created? Why, yes indeedee! Why don't these banks, who are awash in cash, set up a national fund to create jobs? After all, it is because of these bastards we don't have them. And yet, according to the right, these people are somehow "bad" while these thieving, criminal banks and hedge funds are "good".

You want to create jobs? Pass a law creating a sunset on the importation of petroleum products (say 2021) -- conspiracy to import should be a capital offense.
Basically, create a hard deadline beyond which we need to: (a) produce enough oil domestically to satisfy need for it in chemical processes and aviation (b) convert everything else to electricity from renewables or to nuclear |

In my opinion, this should be the reception of nuclear power in this country.
Why The French Like Nuclear Energy | Nuclear Reaction | FRONTLINE | PBS I love it. The French made a case to the people and the people listened. Privatize the plants, but make them accountable to strict guidelines. Wean ourselves completely off bio-petroleum...at least for an energy source. |
