I do not blame Obama for ushering in a new age of incivility--he just extended the old one. He does get credit for the sanctimony with which he chides those with whom he disagrees for their incivility. Just like Pelossi promising the most open administration in history before doing all the important work behind closed doors. You gotta walk the walk if you talk the talk.

Not a new politician at all, he's just a continuation of the same old same old.

The right wing attacks on Obama starting on the day he took office have been unprecedented in US history. The coded racism has been disgusting.

The attacks on a liberal Presidential Candidate started before he ever took office.

Hiding behind the skirt of "racism" only discredits the real racism of earlier generations.

I've finally gotten to the point where I am starting to forget more than I remember.

I don't understand how you can rule out racism as one of the factors contributing to the toxic political atmosphere. It's hard to prove those sorts of things one way or the other, but if racism has stopped being a significant factor in American politics, I would love to know when that happened. Racism has been with us for centuries. Are you suggesting that is all of a sudden disappeared?

I know exactly what you mean. I mean, look at Herman Cain. The man isn't even in office and the racists are lynching him.

Racists are lynching him. Hyperbole alert.

Cain is sort of an ass. It's unfortunate because he does have some good qualities. I thought he was a fresh persona at first but I've grown weary of the dude. Comes across like a know-it-all a bit too much.

It may be a factor among a very small percentage of voters. But when you say its a reason for the effort against the President, it sounds like you are saying its the only, or it a major reason.
Remember conservatives didn't like Bill C as President, and was a white Southerner--no race issue.

I doubt that. Racism is pretty close to a normal human condition. It is something people overcome. IMHO. Of course, neither one of us will ever know how strong a factor it is.

No way. I'm not saying anything remotely like that.

That's more like it. I think that's about right.

That's because they don't like anything that's worth a darn.

I don't think that conservative people are any more or less racist than liberal people, but I have no doubt that this country has always had a serious issue as between black and white. That has not gone away.
