VW to Pass Toyota As Largest Automaker
Boy, I Did Not See This Coming
Volkswagen, with an estimated 2011 sales tally of around 8.1 million vehicles globally (up 13 percent over 2010), is likely to earn top billing as the largest automaker in the world. General Motors, which was in the sales lead through the first half of 2011, ought to move around 7.55 million machines (an eight-percent increase) to hold on to second place while Toyota's estimated 7.27 million sales (a nine-percent falloff) would only be good enough for third in the global race for sales dominance. |

I agree with what I THINK that you are implying. From what I've seen over the years, in most cases a Toyota is a better built vehicle.

Vw seems to be greatly affected by the difference in their production plants. Everything I hear coming out of Mexico is junk compared to their other plants. The jetta and passat specifically, though their newest models appear to be much better. The jetta unfortunately has been cheapened for 2011, and it shows. My wolfsburg-built gti has has no problems and is rock solid so far, not to mention its a hell of a lot of fun! The golf is a consumer reports best buy too, they seem to think reliability will be very good.

VW's are fun to drive, but I have not seen any old ones that were not money pits.

Sweet. And based on where you live, I'm betting a fair amount of those miles are in stop-and-go traffic, which is tough on a car.

Like a Toyota, VW quality s hot or miss. I did have an 88 Fox for a while. Fun little 5 speed that never had an issue, until it refused to start. Then I tossed it.
My mother has a Beetle. She still has is but refuses to drive it. It was so bad she bought a Lexus SUV. Which has a ton of issues. The beetle never had any issue, it was just a crap car for her. And dont get me started on the Prius.... Like the cockroach, larger numbers do not denote superiority.

Please, all VWs are money pits. It only gets worse once they're out of warranty.
