Does any of this make sense in today's U.S.?

What a great debate that was...

It was in fact a debate. Where are Carter's comments?

If Reagan was debating now, he'd be way off camera somewhere in the lineup, over with Huntsman. I can't figure out why the Rep's keep invoking him, when he'd be more liberal than any of today's candidates.

Just some of RR's great Tea-Party inspiring legacy.

Active union member
supported Ike's infrastructure programs
raised taxes in CA
legalized abortion in CA
raised taxes 81 thru 87
1982 tax act was at the time the largest tax hike in historic peacetime
largest corporate tax increase to date in 86
Supported the Brady Act 87
86 immigration reform act (amnesty)
refused to retaliate against civilian targets in response to terrorist actions
signed UN convention against torture
eliminated some nuclear weapons from arsenals
began process which led to the first START treaty
expanded federal gov.- hired 200K new fed. employees
enlarged dept. of Ed and add Dept. of Veterans affairs.
Saved Medicare and SS

It's too bad the guy isn't remembered more for what he actually did than for his sound bites, which seem to be all today's Republicans remember.

It looks like a completely different republican party ,a party that if Ronnie were still around would hate to be associated with its members.I would suspect a bigger sweep of power by the corporate world into the political market very soon, then it will get very intersting very quick , a corporate lead party via campaign contributions which will subject every vote on the hill at their discrepancy of outcome. In the near future corporations will have power to vote on presidential elections just like your average joe, they will be valued as a major voter or something to that effect, thats when you really know were screwed to the tire.
