And guess what I didn't have to go there if I didn't want to. I could have easily gone to CC.

Well sure, scholarship should be considered compensation. That said, NCAA's graduation rates for bball and football are sad, 60-something percent, I think? U of CT's Huskies, 2011 NCAA champs, graduated 31% of their players. Of what value is a scholarship when these guys can't or won't do the work?

NCAA's tv contracts are in billions and this is big biz for these schools. These guys are playing for peanuts.

Tuition alone doesn't cover much. Try:

+ NCAA kickback/ tv fees
+ Alumni donations
+ State & local taxpayer funding
+ Corporate sponsorships
+ Product Contracts

The NCAA has a tv contract with CBS and Turner for about $10B over 14 years; the monies are then passed down to the conferences and schools on an annual basis. The NCAA retains a portion to fund the championships in each sport and the admin costs of the NCAA.

Graduation rates . . . the responsiblity of who(m)? In most Div I schools, there is no shortage of study halls, academic tutors and other resources for the student athletes, compared to the rest of the student population.

For four years?

Where you go to school matters. The top companies do their recruiting from a select number of schools. There are other ways in, but the quickest way is to be there when they are recruiting.

I still contend they should have been able to continue football operations and retain bowl eligibility but have all football revenues directed towards various charities and victim advocate groups for the next 10 years. 10 x $60MM could have gone a lot further than $60MM (which is actually broken down into 5 yearly payments of $12MM). 108,000+ occupied seats every Saturday during the season could have really been put to good use.

That's where the real penalties will come.

So there are no study halls and tutors for non athletic students? Big surprise!
