I didn't read your references and you may have covered this.
One system had a hard insert and the weight rode on the insert when the air leaked out. I heard of a good many problems and complaints with them.
One system had special rims and were not interchangeable with any other tire.
One system had special tools required and finding the tools and someone who actually understood what they did was nearly impossible.
I haven't reviewed this technology for a year or so but at that time I considered it to be more trouble than it was worth.
Foam filled tires are the old school approach and work well for low speeds. Maintenance is a mess.
Nitrogen in tires is good in theory, haven't had experience with them, have nitrogen in shocks.
I have always had good service with new and newish tires. The only problems I had was running old tires and many years ago with radials running in the wrong direction. We regularly run tires near their rated limits and if they work for us they have to be pretty good. This holds doubly true of tires on trailers. Running old tires on a heavily loaded trailer is asking for problems.
One of the best things they did for us was to put date codes on tires. If you don't know how to read the code you shouldn't have a driver license, but, I know...
