Michael Richards better known as Kramer from TVs Seinfeld does make a good point.

This was his defense speech in court after making racial comments in his comedy act. He makes some very interesting points...

Someone finally said it. How many are actually paying attention to this? There are African Americans, Mexican Americans, Asian Americans, Arab Americans, etc.

And then there are just Americans. You pass me on the street and sneer in my direction. You call me 'White boy,' 'Cracker,' 'Honkey,' 'Whitey,' 'Caveman'... and that's OK..

But when I call you, ******, Kike, Towel head, Sand-******, Camel Jockey, Beaner, Gook, or Chink .. You call me a racist.

You say that whites commit a lot of violence against you... so why are the ghettos the most dangerous places to live?

You have the United Negro College Fund. You have Martin Luther King Day.

You have Black History Month. You have Cesar Chavez Day.

You have Yom Hashoah. You have Ma'uled Al-Nabi.

You have the NAACP. You have BET.... If we had WET (White Entertainment Television), we'd be racists. If we had a White Pride Day, you would call us racists.

If we had White History Month, we'd be racists.

If we had any organization for only whites to 'advance' OUR lives, we'd be racists.

We have a Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, a Black Chamber of Commerce, and then we just have the plain Chamber of Commerce. Wonder who pays for that??

A white woman could not be in the Miss Black American pageant, but any color can be in the Miss America pageant.

If we had a college fund that only gave white students scholarships... You know we'd be racists.

There are over 60 openly proclaimed Black Colleges in the US .. Yet if there were 'White colleges', that would be a racist college.

In the Million Man March, you believed that you were marching for your race and rights. If we marched for our race and rights, you would call us racists.

You are proud to be black, brown, yellow and orange, and you're not afraid to announce it. But when we announce our white pride, you call us racists.

You rob us, carjack us, and shoot at us. But, when a white police officer shoots a black gang member or beats up a black drug dealer running from the law and posing a threat to society, you call him a racist.

I am proud.... But you call me a racist.

Why is it that only whites can be racists??

There is nothing improper about this e-mail.. Let's see which of you are proud enough to send it on. I sadly don't think many will. That's why we have LOST most of OUR RIGHTS in this country. We won't stand up for ourselves!

He may have a point but it isn't a very good one. Every single one of those things listed in your chain email above (why are we seeing more of these stupid emails on the forum these days? Have enough junk mail in my own email) completely and utterly denies the context of history and the power structures that are in play. I could refute just about every one of those points but that would practically be a full-length paper. Easy to agree with on the surface but a little bit of deep thinking proves this incredibly problematic.

Minorities are generally oppressed to some degree and have organizations for support and to curb the oppression.

When the majority claims to need a support organization, it tends to ring a bit hollow because, by definition, there is no oppression. Any organization developed by the majority to fuel the majority, is, by definition racist, simply because the majority is not oppressed.

However, nothing in the above absolves the minority from being racist as well. In fact, many minorities are racist to a degree. It works for them because the oppression, or perceived oppression by the majority is all encompassing.

Michael Richards....based on the above quote attributed to him and to the events that happened a couple of years ago in his stand up routine.

The attribution is erroneous (see the snopes link that MTI posted), but his on-stage tirade was certainly not that far off. Some people just need to think before promoting these views, particularly if they are already in the public eye.

Maybee if whomever crafted this e-mail travelled to another country, and themselves became a minority..they would comphrehend what being a minority is like.

My current living location makes me a minority..so I know of that which I speak.

I was born and raised in the South. I have worked with blacks and Hispanics during my working life in Texas and with all colors all around the world. From what I have experienced esp. in Texas I have to mostly agree with my original post. Many whine about their situation but do little to get themselves out of it. They complain that all the shops in their area of town are owned by Asians, but when I remind them every one of those store was for sale before the Asians bought them and they had the same opportunity to buy they have no answer.

No one forces the black kids to drop out of school. No one forces them to sell drugs or steal cars, or do home invasions. Certainly there is still racism in the US just as there is among the black in Africa bur the blacks have much more opportunity in the US but it seems not many avail themselves.

In the job I just retired from after 18 years only one or two of the 15 or so blacks I worked with were worth the effort. They were all nice people but the certainly were not the first ones on the job site when the work started. Granted there were a few whites there that were not worth shooting but the percentage was a lot less.

I've lived places where I was the minority and I've lived places where I was the majority.

Majority is better.
