Interesting take on dietary fat and low fat low carb diets

Seemingly conflicting information is everywhere when trying to find healthy ways to eat. I am looking at rabbit meat and ran across this.

Rabbit starvation results from protein-only diets, say survivalists

Quote:
With a diet of lean meat everything was different. We had an abundance of it as yet and we would boil up huge quantities and stuff ourselves with it. We ate so much that our stomachs were actually distended much beyond their usual size - so much that it was distinctly noticeable even outside of one’s clothes. But with all this gorging we felt constantly hungry... One by one the six Eskimos of the party were taken with diarrhea.
More on nutritional value of rabbit meat:

Nutritional value of rabbit meat : a review - Productions Animales

Quote:
A cholesterol content of 59 mg/100 g and a ratio omega 6/omega 3 of 5.9 make rabbit meat attractive for health purposes.
Rabbits can practically make more meat from food that is not suitable for humans than almost any other critters.

Rabbit meat was often in the freezer section of stores in the past. Haven't seen it for a good while.

Interesting stuff. I like rabbit, but by the time I get done cooking it it's hardly low fat. Bacon or backfat does wonders for it. You might check with your state's agricultural extension agent to see if there are any nearby rabbit raising operations, and they can also put you in touch with 4H and FFA leaders who may know breeders who sell their non-show quality animals for meat. Rabbit's about the only meat animal we've not raised around here, I'm allergic to their fur and can't even get near one without breaking out in big red welts. When we hunt cottontails my son has to do all the handling and skinning. Once it's nice clean meat it doesn't bother me.
