Lockup T/C in 02 Montero Sport?

My mother has a 2002 Mitsubishi Montero Sport, AWD, Auto, 3.5 L V6.

One thing occurred to me the other day - the times I've driven that vehicle, I've never noticed anything resembling torque converter lockup once up to top gear/crusiing speed. Given that it's a 2002, I'd think that a lockup T/C would have been standard by that time.

Given the abuse that another family member and her first spouse put the vehicle thru originally - 60K miles in 2 years with NO MAINTENANCE WHATSOEVER, not even fluid changes - if it does have a lockup T/C, I'm wondering if I shouldn't have someone take a close look at the tranny.
