Welcome to the Republican Party!

A young teenage girl was about to finish her first year of college.
She considered herself to be a very liberal Democrat but her father was a rather staunch Republican.
One day she was challenging her father on his beliefs and his opposition to taxes and welfare programs.
He stopped her and asked her how she was doing in school.
She answered that she had a 4.0 GPA but it was really tough.
She had to study all the time, never had time to go out and party.
She didn't have time for a boyfriend and didn't really have many college friends because of spending all her time studying.
He asked, "How is your friend Mary."
She replied that Mary was barely getting by.
She had a 2.0 GPA, never studied, but was very popular on campus, went to all the parties all the time.
Why she often didn't show up for classes because she was hung over.
Dad then asked his daughter why she didn't go to the Dean's office and ask why she couldn't take 1.0 off her 4.0 and give it to her friend who only had a 2.0.
That way they would both have a 3.0 GPA.
The daughter angrily fired back, "That wouldn't be fair, I worked really hard for mine and Mary has done nothing".
The father slowly smiled and said, "Welcome to the Republican Party".

Notice! I tried to edit the misspelling in the title, then tried to delete and re-enter. I apologize for the fast post, misspelling the word "welcome."

So true. Republicans are those who think that the people who lack money are lazy and undisciplined.

I'm afraid you missed the point Kerry. It's not being poor that the example is about. It's about being poor due to lack of work, but expecting the person who DOES work for something extra to hand over his extra share for nothing.

I doubt it!

For someone who works for a living, and doesn't like giving up an excessive portion of what they've worked for to people who have NOT worked for anything, the story makes perfect sense.

It's another one of those forwarded email gems. It's been circulating on the internets for years and refuses to eddy out.

No new taxes is the Republican parties calling card ,Reinequist has made a career out of it in the camp of the republican party .You then take some of the richest people on Wall Street and give them a 15 % flat tax on huge incomes ,whos getting screwed by who here. The tendency for the Republicans to pull shadey deals behind closed doors lends an ear to how far they will go to control power and to hear their same old rhertoric over and over again is beyond tiring .

Just like old chain e-mails...............

The 2.0 girl mentioned in the OP? She was from Tappan High School.... and I'll wager she was a Democrat too.

Pop quiz: Can you identify the Republican in this clip?

Hulu - Saturday Night Live: Dad

(this clip may be as old as the original posted email.)

Say Larry......have you heard the one about the lady lost in a hot air balloon?.....

Can you quantify exactly how much is an "excessive portion of what they've worked for" using the current US budget?

In your specific case, exactly how much are you giving up to these worthless slobs?

Sorry Brian, but I'm not following you. Who are the worthless slobs? The people who WORK?

No Larry..........the people who do not work.

How much money are you, effectively, giving to them via income tax?

Have you ever bothered to calculate it?

Over-simplification. Hard working people are almost always going to be more prosperous than lazy people. Progressive income taxes would kick in, in my perfect world, for the sort of incomes that can only derive from banking, huge real estate holdings, or business that employ thousands.

Most people are going to maximize their profit by keeping salaries as low as possible. This works up to a point, but there the tendency for the poor to get poorer and the rich to get richer sorta derives from that.

Money is an imperfect thing, without any moderation or governor (as on an engine) the end result is likely feudal landlordism with a small collection of Lords and Earls and huge throngs of peasants.
