hiring through Facebook?
I read that people are finding jobs using Facebook. Is there a jobs section in Facebook or is it through private networking?

I wouldn't search employment that way. LinkedIn is a much better, safer way to hunt. Send me a PM if you need an invite...it's the only way to get on.

I don't know if you can get a job on Facebook but you can sure lose one or be denied one. Human resource managers go right to Facebook to take a look at who they might be hiring. Bad language, racy photos or photos with alcohol or drugs are a BIG no-no.

Not true -- you can create an account without an invite unless something changed massively over the past 3 months. Facebook? I have a page for my business and sometimes get freelance work through there. Safer? Who cares? Most people aren't psycho killers, and there are easier ways than Facebook for psycho killers to hunt.

I've been with LinkedIn for over 6 years, and AFAIK, back then it was invite only.
Facebook is good for businesses that deal with the general public, but not good for manufacturers, other than to have a page that explains their business. LinkedIn has allowed me the ability to network with people in my trade around the world. It has also brought a number of employment opportunities my way, to include the one that moved me to UT and the one that moved me to PA, without cost to me. Facebook has not. LinkedIn is also a great way to keep your finger on the pulse of your chosen business by hearing about trends in the trade on one side of the planet that hasn't hit your place of employment yet...which can be a useful tool to raise your usefulness within a company. As far as FaceBook and employers go...keep your page private and visable to friends only, and make sure you trust those on your friends list. There are hundreds of stories out there concerning people being fired for comments or pictures of them on FB. Just remember, once it's on the internet, it's no longer completely private...nothing really is.
