Just checked my kids' grades online...

Do all school districts have that ability? I like being able to keep tabs on them. I also get to see what the homework assignment is, so they don't have the ability to pull my leg.

Anyway, it's been a little over a month since I got full custody, and all three of the kids are now getting A's and B's. That's a major change from what they were doing in school when they lived with their mom, where the youngest two were barely passing most of their classes. The oldest one has always done well, always honor roll...but now she's doing even better with only one B.

It's amazing just how much they have changed in the short time they've lived with me and my wife versus when they were with they're mom. Love and encouragement goes a long, long way.

I just had to brag a bit...

:) That's nice to hear.

Their mom must be a real screw up if you were awarded custody. Lol.. that came out wrong... no offense to you it just seems courts are extremely biased in favor of the mothers.

Cool. Yes, I think most school districts have online grading. It was extremely useful in the recent problems with my daughters Physics grade. I had direct access to the gradebook of the teacher they fired so knew exactly where she stood when the school wanted to delete the grade from her record.

Our daughter's school has a really cool feature to use when applying for colleges. It has a list of all the universities students at the school have applied to and whether they were accepted or not. Thousands of data points. You click on the university and it brings up a scattergram which shows either the ACT or SAT score of the student who applied and their GPA, and indicates whether they were accepted or not. It will then plot your kid's position on the scattergram giving you an idea of what the odds are of getting accepted.

Mental abuse that graduated to physical, no food in the house or if was generally outdated, lack of control of kids and they were left alone many times, medical issues that were never addressed properly, the list goes on and on. In the end, she signed them over to me on the advise of her attorney due to the growing mountain of evidence I had against her. most of the evidence was either recorded via the kid's cell phones such as video and pictures that they were sending to me.

You're right about the bias. But, then again, most fathers aren't like me.

Interesting...I'll have to look into this.

Brag away, JP! Glad to hear things are going well.

We check up on our kids' grades and assignments regularly. A couple teachers are slow to update the class assignments, which kinda defeats the purpose of posting them online so that the kids and parents can keep track. Even though we have our kids write their assignments down in their agenda books, they still try to pull stuff over on us :D so it's nice to be able to check ourselves.

Great! I was just talking to a friend of mine and he said the main contributor to high school success is parent involvement in the K-5 stage.

Keep smiling man. It's a good feeling. :)

I think most schools have parent online access to grades. Usually it's a 3rd party service like PowerSchool or others that the district subscribes to. That way the district's actual servers are protected and there are still on-site hard copy grade books kept.
Lots of parents don't take the opportunity to use the service. I sure did, almost obsessively in my son's case I'll admit. He hated it, but it paid off.

Good job on the parenting! Involvement and awareness is the key!

And yeah, there a lot of tools available to keep track of what your kids are doing at school.

I can track my kid's grades as well as manage her lunch fund (while monitoring what she chooses to eat!)

Books are rare in our school district and most teachers have websites with online books and assignments. I know what stuff is due and when...eliminates the guesswork when your kid says they "have no homework"!

There is very little that your kids can get away with these days!

Well I wouldn't be so smug as to go that far. Where there's a will....

Congrats...at least you're not bragging that your kids are the best looking, etc., too. :D

I'm glad they are able to settle into a stable home life and I hope you all enjoy a wonderful, heartwarming Christmas, JP.

My 11 year old's son's school district has used PowerSchool for several years. I access it regularly and really love it. Report card day is anti-climatic because we already know what his grades are. Very good tool if you use it proactively.

The other modern day school communication miracle is a teacher's email address. I love being able to get in touch with them so easily and all of his teachers respond.

After everything your children have been through, I applaud them for their hard work and effort.
