Ahhh ! You and I actually met, when you drove the '80 300D out to the MB Classic Center in Irvine, CA.... I remember the Kansas plate on it!!! Fun times!! (this pic from another, later visit, for reference) http://i353.photobucket.com/albums/r...269-Edit-1.jpg |
Jim,
we also had dinner together with the group of guys (6 or so) the night before the GTG at the hotel you were staying at. |

Hard to beat the solid tank like experience of the vintage MB combined with top down motoring. Nice choice

Lets just enjoy the pics that Tyler has had the wisdom to take & share. I for one dont care how they came into his possession, they are a nice set of MB pics. If his chosen occupation results in him being able to drive cars like these, good luck to him !!! We can all be envious !!;) |
Thanks for sharing, Tyler!
This is a lovely collection of pictures of cars. I think it would be instructive if you would also post a before picture so we all could appreciate what you did with them. I am fairly certain they all were not pristine when you got them.;) The concept of taking an older car and making it basically show worthy for the purpose of selling it at the best price is an excellent one. I like to do it that way too. Make it look sharp and sell it with no apologies. I have never quite reached the level of perfection that you seem to do regularly though. I am especially envious of your picture taking.;) |
Don't be so shy about buying MB's Tyler!
Seriously though, a bunch of beautiful cars in those pictures! |

That's quite an extensive list, Tyler! I see several missing models though... ;)

Tyler,
Your missing out, I don't see a W108 in your previously owned Mercedes vehicles. Do you have that on your bucket list? https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-x...0/DSCN1561.jpg Regards, 280SE Guy |

I've never come across a 108 worth buying. Looked at lots of rusty and neglected ones. I regret selling alot of them. C36 was probably the biggest regret. I'll never find one that nice, sorted, and cheap for less money ever again. It had a new wiring harness, rebuilt head, new headliner, and a bunch of other stuff along with being in excellent cosmetic condition. I miss the 300SEL as well. I had it extremely well sorted and loved the color combo and cosmetic condition. The E300 I'd probably still have if the transmission didn't crap out. In anger I decided to sell it after fixing it, wiping my hands of old cars as daily drivers, and its been flawless for the next owner. When I think about it, though, I wouldn't trade any for my new VW GTI. Its just so much fun, and I don't have to worry about problems and maintenance for many years. http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/g...0/DSC00269.jpg |
I wish I could have driven that C36, heck even the GTi looks like a ton of fun
|
I love the GTI but don't get the wheels......
So the white 107 is your fav? It is sweet! |

I've had the 500SL for just about 10 years. Grandma got it new, and it got me into this hobby. It is pretty much priceless to me. |

The GTI rims are polarizing. Personally i loves em. Nice ride Tyler. My buddy has one i think same color as yours.
|
Ohhh, the 500SL. Nice car.
I knew the rims were factory but still don't really get them. Sorry. I test drove a GTI back when they first came out in the boxy rabbit. Great cars! |

Two of those are mine now (well number 29 is my mothers, and I also have the Miata), but I think I've seen most in person.
I'm sorry I started you on all of this. |

The Mercedes Benz Classic Center restored a 6.9 and an 300SD. to a cost-no-object basis resto standard. Put them up for sale too. About $140k I think, for each one, they were on the floor for a looooong time. "The "Best or Nothing at All". ("Die beste oder nicht" <------- G. Daimler) :) http://i353.photobucket.com/albums/r...1/IMG_0525.jpg |
From what I remember they were not restored. One had 750 miles on it the other had 1500 miles on it and were original as you can get it. Both still had the original tires and rubber under the hood. They were kind enough to go through the fluids and ask 6 figures for each.
My 6.9 was was the 521st every made. It was a 1976, and the 6.9s didn't come to the US until 1977. Mine was imported later I believe, but didn't have the history. Odometer said it had 60,000 miles, but who knows the actual. I imagine it was low though, judging from the interior wear. If I had the money I would have made the car absolutely perfect, and would have loved to keep it too. I'm sure I'll be kicking myself 30 years from now when they're 6 figure cars and I sold mine for $5000. I still have the memories and this video. :D 1976 Mercedes 450SEL 6.9 Burnout - YouTube |

Right now its somewhere in Costa Rica. This 1998 S320 ate my lunch. Bought it from a very shady dealer in Florida who put it through a full PPI which it passed with flying colors and was in like new condition. Turned out to have a bad head gasket, bad transmission, suspension clunks and various cosmetics to be done. Very nice car when it was all done though, and sold to a fellow forum member. http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/mercedes-cars-sale/314848-1998-s320-long-wheelbase-wichita-ks-$6500.html http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/g...IMG_0013-2.jpg 1997 SL600 with the rare panorama hard top. Being well known as the old Mercedes nut with all the local car dealers paid off huge with this one. The Volvo dealer was looking for a bid on a potential trade in. They would not let me drive it as the seller was very protective. I didn't see anything really wrong with it, but bid conservatively at $7500 because alot of issues don't show themselves until you drive it. When the Volvo dealer gave them that number, he left in a huff, only to return a few weeks later and buy the car. When they called me and said they had gotten the trade, I was shocked. Took it for a drive and it had no issues worth mentioning. The icing on the cake was the panorama roof that was not on the car when I made the initial bid. Sold it so fast that I don't have any pictures of it other than the pano roof. http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/g...h860/pano3.jpg 1981 300TD: Random $1500 dealer auction find turned into faithful Miguel's pan-american expedition vehicle, now known as Livingston. This one went to a forum member as well. Really wish I had it back. http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/mercedes-cars-sale/321922-2006-e320-cdi-1-owner-great-condition-$12500-wichita-kansas.html http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/g...I/IMG_1815.jpg Another euro 500SL found its way to me by accident the weekend I got engaged in Houston. I stopped by an auction I usually buy their leftovers from and couldn't believe someone had traded in this manganese brown 1984 500SL to the MB franchise dealer. Got it listed on Bring a Trailer, which was my fourth sale through them. The exposure is unbelievable. Wound up going back to Germany. http://bringatrailer.com/2012/11/18/bat-exclusive-euro-spec-1984-mercedes-benz-500sl/ http://bringatrailer.com/wp-content/...ont_resize.jpg I purchased a 2002 E430 sport at a local auction from one of those cash for car titles places. This repo was the most trashed car purchase of the year, but at $1700 with only 130k I could not go wrong. Garbage filled the floors. Responded well to some good mechanic-ing and cleaning. http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/g.../E430sport.jpg 2002 CL500 Sport: Gotta be one of the sexiest Mercedes ever. When the ABC hydraulic suspension is working properly it is absolutely heaven on earth to take on the highway. I can certainly understand why this car was 100k new, and 60k miles later I owned it for a little over 10% of that original MSRP. When I sold this car it led to my first "free" Mercedes. http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/g...ps64d0b3e4.jpg I sold the CL500 to a couple who were both psychiatric nurses and Mercedes/BMW nuts. They were very informed buyers and it was refreshing to work with people who had actually done some research and knew what they were getting into. The only issue was their credit. One of their grown children had kidney failure without health insurance requiring them to pay for a transplant out of pocket, which along with the economic downturn led to their own financial melt down. After the bankruptcy they worked hard to pay off the remaining settlement, but had not gotten any new significant credit in years. Finding a credit union to take a chance on them was a very rewarding experience personally, and very rewarding for my business. I took their 2002 ML320 on trade. It has 184,000 miles and is certainly not showing its age. A few issues to sort out, but overall a very solid car. The margin on this deal left a good chunk of money in my pocket and this ML for free. http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/g...psd97d7350.jpg I think I would consider 2012 to now the best time of my life and it feels like its only getting better. The business is taking off, found a great girl that can tolerate me, got engaged, and have my first baby on the way! I'm very happy. http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/g...psd173c1cd.jpg |
