My Doberman....*sigh*

I love my dog, yet he is the most mischievous dog I have ever known.

I have a house with a 2 car garage on 4.5 acres. I have 4 vehicles so that means 2 set outside the garage. I frequently let my dog out on his own to take care of his business and there is no problem as he will do his duty, sniff around a little, and come back in the house on his own. Last night he was out for a bit and I was not worried as it was raining and he does not like the rain much, especially in cold weather. However, last night he had a plan as when I went out with him this morning I found the front passenger door open on my 1981 300D. Not only that, but the glove box was open and the contents scattered and soaked in the yard. As soon as he saw me notice this he knew that I was not happy with him. Looks like I need to keep the doors locked.

Bailey, Bailey, Bailey.....what am I going to do with you?

Needs more exercise or with the excess energy retention they will find mischief. I am not one to talk as our latest dog is in the same catagory. I am aware he shold be getting more excercise.

Probably would not hurt me either. He may have observed you at one time or another getting into a glovebox and was curious.

Hopefully he's a pup. If so, he should grow out of this stuff by the time he's about two years old. Raising a pup is always a challenge.

Oh, he does get a lot of exercise. He rides in this car a lot and he loves to go for rides. He is about 2 1/2 years old and still very much a puppy.

I guess the most important and relevant question here is, is your dog a professional "POWER DOOKER"?

At 2 1/2 there still might be hope. I have a four year old dog that was a terror as a pup, but continues to be less destructive as time passes.

Make sure he has a chew toy that he knows is acceptable for chewing, but gets nailed when he chews on anything else.

He has toys. He is not the chewer that he used to be. A Doberman trainer told me that Dobermans are not mentally mature until about 4 years of age.

He is very house broken and very good about it. He is so sensitive about it that he will not eat when I am out of the house.

Your dog can open the car door and then open the glove compartment? Seriously you need to makes movie and post it on youtube and get some ad revenue out of that.

Locking the doors may not be quite enough. Call the closest Mercedes dealer and see if your VIN was recently presented to order a new set of keys. I would also keep an eye on the odo reading for awhile.

You think the dog is driving the car? Actually I had wondered if perhaps someone had not left the car door open or ajar and had searched the glove box. Then the dog came upon the car. This people entering cars to find things to steal is far from uncommon.

Well, it is just me and Bailey at the house. I live in a very rural area and the house sets back from the road 300 feet. It was pouring rain that night. I just don't see some one walking to the car in those conditions. If somebody would have drove back Bailey would have known and been at the front door ready to go after them. Not saying that someone could have done that, but under the conditions it seems doubtful.

I've heard that all along with my Retriever. "Give him time, he'll calm down." "He won't run as much when he gets older." "By next year..." He's 17 now.

Unfortunately it took arthritis to slow him down. With meds and doggy aspirin he's still pretty active, though.
