Anybody know of a Yugo for sale??

Yes, I'm serious...I am looking for a Yugo. I've owned two of the cars in the past, when I was a teenager. For nostalgic, as well as others, I'd like to own another one. I had a GV and a GVX. I'd prefer either the GVX or the GVL, but any trim package would suffice.

I'd like one that is in decent, running condition.

If you know of one, please let me know.

Fixer.

Yugo GV 87 ? not sure, sat for 10 + years in the yard parts car fix up complete | eBay

I already called them...it isn't running and would need to have the engine pulled and rebuilt, as well as other things.

Like I said...running. LOL

Running.

At this price it should be.

I know a guy in Bisbee Az who has one he bought new and has only put 20K or so on it. I doubt he'd sell it, he's not a car guy. His DD is a 60's Bug. The Yugo is his "fancy" car. I'll shoot him an email anyhow.

Interesting that there is only one on ebay.

My guess is most of them are iron oxide at this point. Weren't they pretty famous for terminal rust?

They are a really simple car, no frills and easy to wrench on. Carbed instead of injections, and the carb was borrowed from the first gen Ford Escorts, which came from the Pinto. The brakes were Ford as well, if I remember correctly. It's non-power assisted rack and pinion steering was easy to work on as well. The transmission was lightweight and easy to work on as well.

It's about as simple as an automobile can be. It's also a great little car for in town driving...very simple to get in and out of tight parking spots.

I've been dreaming of getting another one for years now, and rebuilding it with my son, then both of us taking it to different local shows. The oddity of the car now, as well as the bad name it had, would make for an interesting evening at a car show, and my son would be able to say that he did alot of the work as well.

Neither of mine had rust when they left me, and I lived north of Cincinnati, Ohio, which is known for snow and salt.

I guess it depended on ownership and preventative maintenance...

They were built on the FIAT 127 platform and were powered by a 1979 FIAT 128 1100cc engine...how many of those are still around? LOL

The last and only time I saw one it was....

What made it a amusing at the time is that I was driving the old G500. Looking at the Yugo made me keep my distance (It was the last thing i'd want to hit as I would have probably sliced it in half )

Dubyagee 12-15-2011 09:12 PM

Quite a few of them actually, called the "Zastava" in Serbia, and the "Lada" in Russia where they were built by Soviet and Yugoslavian commies for years.

Though they never made the top ten in Clarkson's hit parade, where for years they tried to peddle them in the UK.

classic road test.:P
