Finally, Sheriff Joe Gets Some Comeuppance

Justice department finds pervasive evidence of bias against Latinos. The first crack in the old blowhard's armor.

He said he was particularly upset by an announcement by the homeland security secretary, Janet Napolitano, a former Arizona governor, that as a result of the findings of discrimination, the federal government would no longer allow sheriff’s deputies to check the immigration status of inmates in their custody.
Intentional dereliction of duty on the part of the federal government. This is not acceptable. By the way, do you think we can get Sheriff Joe in charge of ICE?

America's Toughest Sheriff also has issues with improperly closed or investigated sexual assault and abuse cases, about 400 or more of them; then there's the millions of tax dollars that have been spent, both in his wild haired allegations against public officials and defending himself against lawsuits against him. AZ is an interesting place . . . you can misuse millions of dollars, but so long as you appear tough on immigration violations, all can be forgiven.

How do you get yours? Most of ours walk or wade across a border. I would think that would be considerably more difficult for Australia.

this portion of the article is interesting.....

The Justice Department report quotes from some people characterized as victims of the department’s overzealous ways. It cites the case of a Latino driver who won a $600,000 legal settlement after a deputy intentionally struck him with his patrol car during a traffic stop.

In another case, an inmate was not allowed to use another inmate as an interpreter to tell a detention officer that her sheets were soiled. She was told she had to make the request herself in English, even though she did not speak the language well.

After Sheriff Arpaio received a letter complaining that employees of a McDonald’s in Sun City, a retirement community, did not speak English, the sheriff forwarded the letter to a top aide, who mounted an immigration raid in the area.

What's your objection ot Napolitano's policy? Do you reject the Justice Department's findings of discrimination by Sheriff Arpaio? Or do you think that they don't matter?

The DOJ's letter to the Maricopa County Attorney is fairly devastating. It's only the DOJ's side of the story, but it paints an ugly picture. Justice Department Findings in its Investigation of the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office

Have his policies been effective?

No more pink pajamas?

Does that mean the prisoners won't be wearing pink anymore, or sent out to pick the lettuce when the local militias are too successful in busting illegals and getting them deported?

. . . and if the deputy doesn't speak or understand your language, which they are not required to do . . . the first thing they learn about others of the group offering to translate . . . is never to trust their translations. If they were willing to wait . . . probably a spanish speaking deputy would have handled the issue later.

Exactly right. The old SOB accepted contract responsibility for investigations in the town of El Mirage, west of Phoenix, and then did nothing. El Mirage is and has always been a largely Latino community, but that says nothing about the number of illegals there one way or another. There are plenty of us who have been here generations longer than this old pr!k who talks with a New York accent. He left tons of victims without closure and perps walking free. Why? The reason is clear. They're all a bunch of messicans so who GAF? If this SOB suffered a debilitating stroke tomorrow I'd have a NEGRA MODELO in one hand and a good tequila in the other held high to the good fortune.
MCSO failure to investigate dozens of sex crimes means offenders still free, victims still in danger

NO PRISONERS HERE!!

Lakeland, FL made national headlines on September 28, 2006 when Polk County Sheriff's Deputy Vernon "Matt" Williams and his K-9 partner, Diogi, were shot and killed after a routine traffic stop. The incident sparked outrage among the central Florida law enforcement community. More than 500 law officials came together in search of Angilo Freeland, the suspect wanted in connection with the murder. The next morning Freeland was found hiding under a fallen tree. Nine SWAT members fired 110 shots at Freeland, hitting him 68 times and killing him on the spot. When asked by the Orlando Sentinel, why the police had shot Freeland 68 times, Sheriff Grady Judd replied "we ran out of bullets".

The part about doing anything other than cooperating fully to facilitate the detection and deportation of people who are not supposed to be here.

Yes.

I do find the large reported number of botched/not followed up criminal assault/abuse cases disturbing.

It's very sad when you see someone that is doing their job very well, being harassed.
