How do we know this is indeed a 6.0L AMG motor?

"Original" AMG claims are easy to make, and done to gin up prices as a trap for unwary buyers.

Easier to do since all "Pre Merger" original work orders for the Affalterbach built AMG cars have been discarded by the time AMG was bought out by Mercedes Benz and merged into MB in about 1998;

The chances of finding a DOCUMENTED AMG car are low.

This is wholly apart from the AMG put together cars from the authorized US AMG factory facilities in Florida, Chicago (the Westmont Illinois AMG mother store) and Bevery Hills Motoring Accessories.

And "put together" versions like mine, which was built from individual AMG parts, such as the headers, downpipes, wheels etc.


This subject has been discussed with regard to the Generation I (1980-1985) and Generation II (1986-1991) W126 S class AMG cars to death on the Benzworld W126 section ..

In fact, people on there are constantly combing cl and autotrader and elsewhere, for AMG cars for sale and ever one that shows up, is the subject of a heated discussion of ts AMG provenance, and dubious and spurious claims are usually outed immediately.

On this one, for example, and the one rreferred to by the OP, I think the chin spoiler is NOT an AMG original, and was probably replaced with whatever else was available, ie, Wald, Lorinser, etc, because the orignal chin spoiler, if it was an AMG one, was likely replaced due to the fact that on the lowered cars they frequently were smashed on parking stops and curbs and moderatey steep driveways by drivers that did not slowly exit on the oblique which is what you need to do..

And sometimes were replaced with --- whatever.


As to how do you know it is a true 6.0 liter AMG motor, the first thing I would do is take off the valve covers and look for AMG stampings on the cams.

If the motor was a "pre-merger" built in Alfalterbach, it would have an AMG number stamped onto the block, typically where the Mercedes serial number would be.

Odd the add doesn't provide one bit of evidence and they have the balls to ask that kind of money.

Have the PPI done at a shop with a chassis dyno or bring at stopwatch to the test drive

Looks interesting. On a car like that an aftermarket head unit is a real detractor, as is the used car dealer vacuum job on the carpets. He is asking top dollar and one would expect to have a legit no BS story example.

For that kind of money I'd want to see a full service history, and AMG documentation on what exactly was done to the car.

Also the POS head unit would need to be trashed, and those POS Chinese tires would need to go. The stock sound systems were not that good in these cars, but for a collector vehicle like this originality is everything. It would be one thing if he had the original head unit in a box to go along with the car, but they don't.

If you want premium money you have to offer a premium product.

But for a no BS 560SEC wide body with all the crap mentioned above taken care of, I'd pay $35k for it. No problem.

This dealership is know in the 941 area for doing this. I know one of the salesmen at this place. Best example I can give is recently they had a 1996 C36 AMG with 44k miles. They where asking $16,000 They had to drop the price down the near $11k before people started to look and finally got rid of it. This 126 will have the same thing happen.
