That was great fun, I've always heard about the cars of Cuba. I'd love to go there some day. I've entertained the idea of going there from Mexico to avoid the whole federal hassle but haven't pursued it.
It looked to me like a number of those cars had been lifted, not just jacked up in the rear like old time hot rods, but lifted on all 4 corners. Anyone else notice it?

You could always visit Cuba. Cuba never minded having Americans visit. All you had to do was travel to Mexico and book a flight from there. It's here that you'd have problems if you did that and got caught. Now I guess it's OK to go from here but you can't go unescorted, which is how I'd want to go. it's gotta be on a state dept. approved tour or some such BS.

US citizens have been going to Cuba for years, way before the new "educational tour" rules started, via Mexico or Canada. I think last year the government allowed the sale of private automobiles.

My dad always went through Canada. He used to pack two identical suitcases as their 'customs' would always seize half of everything he brought.

I believe I spied a 1951 Cadillar Series 62 Station Wagon Coachcraft Conversion...I've only seen one other n my life. There's a collector of vintage Cadillacs in Ohio. I dated is daughter when we were in High School. Her daily driver was a 1953 Cadillac. He had one of seven, 1957 Cadillac station wagons. It wasn't a converted Hearse, but a factory station wagon, as the story goes. His wife drives a 1959 Fleetwood as her daily driver. The guy has a collection of about 30 different vintage Cadillacs.

That 1957 of his was used in his cousin's wedding...Congressman Mike Turner.

I felt sorry for the ole T-bird. What a horrible choice of rims for that car...

Thanks for sharing. If we ever open trade with Cuba, I know where I'm going to find my next vintage project.

Definitely. I suspect, given the comment about potholes on the main drag through the island, that the secondary and tertiary roads are even less forgiving. If they're even paved at all.

What struck me is the poor taste in aftermarket wheels.

Yeah, but it might very well be that those were the only wheels he could get.
