who can read piston skirts?

Check out these pistons from a bent rods 603 -

Do the wear marks on the piston skirts indicate bent rods or something else? FWIW, the #1 rod was measurably bent such that the leading edge of the piston was lower than the trailing edge. In the picture, there is more wear in the trailing edge of the skirt of the #1 piston. I couldn't measure any bend-ness in the #2 or #3 rods, which could simply reflect my lack of means and knowledge. Neither could I measure cylinder liner wear, out of round-ness, etc.

I've led the discussion with my thinking but does anyone think the wear in #1 indicates a problem other than a bent rod?

#1 appears to have had more heat than the others, lending to the flare on the trailing edge?

It looks like excessive heat to me, too. So now the question is... Why the excessive heat?

And the answer is likely just a worn out engine. As the bearings get worn in the crank, the cam and even the wrist-pin things can get out of tolerance and all the adjustment in the world will not help it. But if these tolerances get too far out there is more friction and that means more heat and that leads to damage.

The rod bending would lead to a heat build up and that could effect the other pistons that were close.

It looks like it is time to call in a professional machine shop for the real answers.

Bent rods have been discussed to death on DD. I'm putting it before a fresh set of eyes.
