DSLR -- the Jurrasic creature is passing into the sediment of time

Psst, anybody want some expensive lenses?

DSLRs are a dying breed – 3rd Gen Cameras are the Future

As long as the output is digital, then the market will still exist for the DSLR, just like there was still a market for rangefinders when SLR bodies came along, but not as robust.

I agree. The point about SLR's is the variety of ability that different lenses give you. Not the megapixels or camera size or weight.

I know a number of serious photogs who still use old Leica rangefinders now and then. Sure, they're luddites, I know.

I have a D3100. And it has a built-in rangefinder. Comes in handy.

Anyway, the DSLR I always saw as a step backward when it came to digital photography. I never understood why a sensor, which can be turned on and off, can not just be switched. In a DSLR is already is, but then we have that mechanical crap. I have a few early digital and they shot just as well as a DSLR and were an on/off sensor type. Basically a primitive 3rd gen if they want to call it that.

But I am sure I will shoot DSLR for sometime. Next on the shopping list is a D4.

Just as the SLR camera back in the 50's and 60's offered a modular chassis to suit different chores, the DSLR may still have that advantage with viewfinder options, focusing screens, quick viewfinder recovery (no LCD lag) and . . don't laugh at this . . . ergonomics. Yes, there is some benefit to a camera with some heft and feel, not to mention a certain robust construction that can handle field use.

I despise little bitty cameras with buttons and controls designed for toddlers.

The hated lag time of digital caused me to have a CLR on a Zorki 4 and its 80f2 lens.
Infants and toddlers do not wait for digital.

Ah well, I still use my Hassleblad 500 & Mamiya & Yashika medium format cameras. IMHO, digital is not really photography, but that's going to start a ***** storm....

I skipped over Vista to get to Win 7, so I suppose I can skip over DSLR to get to Gen 3...
