What do you hear from the Honda people?¿

Howdy All,
This is a spin-off of the "stereotype" thread. I frequent a 4x4 and a Jeep newsgroup and we get the occasional trolling Honda owner in to tell us that the only reason we need these big bad machines is because we are sexually lacking I hear people say that a person driving a Mercedes is just showing off
their money. So my question to you guys is: What do you hear the Honda owners say about you?¿(Stereotyping) Has anyone heard something funny or is it all serious?¿

They shut right up because You can't argue with workmanship and quality. A new honda, will drop its value by almost 50% after the first year or two, while my 10 year old car still retains 1/3 of its value after 10 years. that says a lot to me.

Of course I could care less about what some honda owner thinks about me. I drive a benz because it is reliable, low cost to maintain, and it is a damn sharp looking car that 90% of the people out there still think is new.

If they have a problem with it, its all because of jealousy. They do not realize that they too could be driving a wonderful mercedes automobile, if they would only stop being full of stereotypes about mercedes owners.

I don't care what they say

about me driving a Honda or a MB. I will say that the Honda has gone right at 100k with absolutely no problems whatsoever. Only oil/filter, tranny, ps, brake fluid changes and some brake pads and tires. I can't say the same for the MB but give me a W123 anyday .

What matters more is how I feel and think rather than let someone do it for me.

Not necessarily Honda people but I used to try to explain to people that these MBs don't cost as much as they think. You tell someone you own a Mercedes or 2 they automaticly think you're rich. I have since given up trying dispelled their preconceived notions. Let them think what they want. Ask any Honda owner who has over 125K miles how much it starting to cost them to maintain their car. While you're at it ask them how many 20 year old Hondas do you see running around, case closed.

The problem with having money is when someone flaunts it in such a way as to say "I'm better than you because I have more money." Buying a Mercedes says you're better than the Honda driver because you're smarter. A book by Thomas Stanley and William Danko titled "The Millionaire Next Door: Surprising Secrets of America's Wealthy," tells us the story of a guy who bought a Mercedes. He bought it for no other reason than the knowledge that it would run forever, and it did. In the long run this saved him a lot of money, money which he would have put into repairs if he had bought any other car.

It's a cool book, a little dated but many of the principles still apply. Very full of common sense for the common man.

My wife and I owned a Honda Prelude AND Honda Passport a few years back. Sold the Passport to my sister-in-law (who still has it) to buy the ML320, and the Prelude was traded for a Jaguar XJS, which was then traded in for the 500SL.

Both Hondas performed flawlessly during our ownership. The only major replacement was a battery for the Prelude after 4+ years.

Their reliability is legendary. What I found fault with is their lightweight body construction.

Both vehicles had been in collisions and I was shocked by the amount of damage to the vehicles, especially since the collisions were under 20 mph!!!

I have decided that I would rather be in am MB if I ever get into another collision!

I have equal amounts of mileage on my MB and my Honda since ownership. 38,000 miles. Honda had 132,000 mi. when I got it and MB had 192,000. I have spent $13,000 on the MB and it sits in the shop waiting on a new transmission. I have spent $1000 on the Honda and drive it 300 miles a week. But I have to admit, the MB is better looking even if it doesn't work.

I do believe that Hondas are very good cars, but they are not MBs.

If some Honda owner is ignorant enough to stereotype an MB owner, they are not worth my wasted time. Why waste time trying to explain to someone how you are smarter than them when they will never get it?

I enjoy driving my "84 Honda Accord 5 spd.
Sure, it's a lightweight, but it's fun to drive, gets 35 MPG and saves my aging Benzes from most of the ravages of local traffic and winter driving.

Happy Motoring,

The decision of which car(s) to own is entirely a unique and personal one. I don't think anyone is smarter or dumber for choosing a certain manufacturer. To say that all Benz are better than aything else is both a true and untrue statement. Whatever turns you on. I wouldn't put any more stock in a Honda owner bragging than a Benz owner boasting. In my book they're both wrong. I've been hearing the Chevy/ Ford rivalry for 40 years and it ain't settled yet. To each his own but be warned, MY car will ALWAYS be better than your car, cause, well, my car is mine and I'm smarter. Yeah, that's the ticket!:p

Howdy All,
The guy that is restoring my Mog is a builder of hotrods. He told me once that he likes all cars because they all have something good about them. They also all have something bad about them. He concentrates on talking about the good. When a brand loyal person gets a little out of hand he just thinks to himself " hey little boy go home and come back when you grow up". Just one more thing for this post. I put over 100,000 miles on my 1986 Dodge Colt and a number of those miles were off-road. I sold it to a friend and the car ended up with about 350,000 miles on it. 2¢ worth

Cap'n Carageous,

You completely missed my point.

My comment on being smarter or dumber had nothing to do with the type of car one drives. What I meant by saying "Why waste time trying to explain to someone how you are smarter than them when they will never get it?" was that I am smarter for not stereotyping people by the type of car that they drive. I DID NOT mean I am smarter for driving a Mercedes, I meant I am smarter for not placing stereotypes on people.

Intelligence is partly a lack of ignorance, and those that are not ignorant know not to place stereotypes on people.
