Shipping to Australia

I have a stick transmission that I need to ship to Australia. it weighs 92#. Anybody know the best way to ship something like that?

I have a dozen or so parts that need to be shipped varying from 5# to 92. Total weight may be 200 to 250#. I could put them all on one pallet or box them up separately.

suggestions?

Disassemble it and put it in your checked baggage.

The way i pack stuff like that is rigg a lightweight pallett--out of good hardwood 3/8 plywood with 4 wood or plastic blocks and then screw the parts down with a layer of good cardboard and drywall corner bead tin strips at the edges pulling the cargo down tight.
one guy I have used before in Gladstone-- KC area sent a custom car hardtop to Phillip AU once but the situation has changed a lot since then-he could give you the best tips.

Stuff them in bottles. It may take awhile, though...

all of it on a pallet might cost between 800 and 1500 bucks to get to Australia, but thats just a WAG. Get a quote from a freight company, with pallet weight, cargo, and dimensions of the load. Ive used this company a bunch of times- "Mohawk Global." Pallets work better internationally if you stack 12 transmissions on it, might not be that much more expensive to ship than a single one. Still worth seeing what they have to say though

UPS package weight limit is 150lbs, so technically it would still make it in a box, but would still be like 700-1200 bucks to ship in a box. Also check USPS and DHL. All of them have package weight limits, and free online quoting.

Try DHL. I had a lots of parts shipped from the UK with them and they were reasonable.

Are you anywhere near an airport Qantas serves?

Filipinos have it made. You can ship just about anything you can fit in a 20" cube for $50-60 picked up from most west coast cities and delivered within Manila. $10-20 more outside Manila. And the box is free! It doesn't work going the other way.

Nope. Minneapolis and Philly if I read their route map correctly. Maybe United or Northwest has cargo service to Australia.

Qantas

Qantas Freight is based in Los Angeles. Qantas doesn't fly beyond LA but has Co Branding with American Airlines.

Air Freight is an easy way, esp if the item is of a transmission size. Ocean Freight is the other alternative and takes 4-6 weeks minimum.

Contact Qantas and see if they have an Air Freight broker in CHI or IND, probably CHI.

If you choose to ship to LA by a LTL carrier (G.O.D. is one) you wuill need a local broker to do the paperwork and transfer to Qantas for you.

There are other Air Freight firms that serve AU, they might be less costly than Qantas but...

It ain't gonna be cheap.

My employer ships thousands of tons of items from AUS to the US annually but very little of it goes the other way. Have you considered putting it in a container and having it shipped? 250 pounds is going to be ridiculously expensive.

We air mail items at a horrendous cost to Melbourne and Brisbane.
