1951 170D Benz Engin & Drive tran swap??

I've always wanted to do something like that. I don't know what is the closest fit, but I imagine the drivetrain from a 190E or C220 is an easy fit. If you want to keep it a Diesel, the drivetrain out of a 190D 2.2 should be an easy fit. The drivetrain out of a 190D 2.5 turbo or 300D 2.5 might fit and will give you moder car power. Of course the 170D might have a crossmember arrangement that makes fitment of a newer MB engine difficult.

The weak point of a converted 170D is probably the brakes. I don't know what it will take to fit modern brakes to that car.

You'll also have to upgrade the electrical system to 12V or reduce the voltage for native systems.
