Will they ever make the last of the trilogy??

I have Gods and Generals, as well as Gettysburg, but the third movie in the trilogy has yet to be made. There's been teasing articles in the past that it may be in pre-production, but those stories have proven to be false.

The last in the series is The Last Full Measure.

The first book was written by Michael Shaara, and the remainders were written by his son, Jeff.

Ted Turner fronted the money on the first two movies, but because of the sheer length of them, they didn't do too well in the theaters. it's been rumored that if someone fronted half of it, that Turner would shell out the other half.

I've read the books, and love them...they are very well written and seem to be historically accurate, as far as the battles go.

Perhaps some other time...My current interest lies with past American wars and being as historically accurate as possible, where possible.

Killer Angels was made into the movie Gettysburg and was Michael Shaara.

Gods and Generals is the prequel to Killer Angels and is Jeff Shaara, Last Full Measure is chronologically after Killer Angels and also Jeff; so Jeff's books bookend his father's.

I prefer Michael's style in Killer Angels to Jeff's in his books.

In the same sort of series you've also got Gone for Soldiers. I thought Jeff delved more into the fictional side of historical fiction by this point. The first three are pretty good. Gone for Soldiers is okay, but I found some of the scenes to be quite a stretch of the imagination compared to the more research-based info in the earlier books.

If you like Shaara, you'd probably also like Stephen Ambrose. If the 1800's are your era, Undaunted Courage about Lewis and Clark and Nothing Like it in the World about building the railroad are pretty good. Nothing Like It bogs down in a few places but overall is worth a read.

Ambrose's others include Band of Brothers for WWII. I've heard that The Wild Blue is very good and accurately and thoroughly researched but haven't read it so can't give a personal recommendation.

When i was in the hospital this week (I got out yesterday evening) i watched both Gods and General as well as Gettysburg again. My son wants to watch them with me now...we're putting the first of the two in to view in a few minutes.
