Negative aspect of driving
Ever notice the cops never pull you over and say, "I saw you perform a lane change correctly therefore I'm going to give you two gold stars to be added to your driving record showing you are a model driver."?? Nope, it is always, "You were speeding, you were tailgating, you were blah blah blah so you get a $300 ticket. have a nice day."
Plus, last snow storm, the fire fighters were out helping people get their cars unstuck while the cops were busy handing out stickers marking people's cars for towing...... |

You want policemen pulling you over on a regular basis to commend you on your driving abilities? I would prefer to just continue on my way, but that's me.

I would also like to have my doctor swing by the restaurant every time I order a salad with the dressing on the side, instead of fries.

Some years back, a major insurance company was reported to be handing out radar guns to police departments so they could catch more speeders. |

There are a lot of carriers that issue "good driver" discounts, rebates, lowering deductibles and the like. Why not check your policy?

I DID just get a couple speeding tickets, so my policy crept back up a little.

many carriers do, what I'd like to see is the cops hand out "atta-boys" which would result in even more discounts...... |

The "problem" with your genius idea is that the decsion by the officer might be called somewhat subjective . . . unless you're a buxom gal in a Camaro (Car Talk's "Donna"), who gets all the "atta boys" she can handle.

Say you are in a hurry, or busy, and you get pulled over, and the cop tells you that you are doing a good job. My instant thought would be- "WHY did you pull me over then?" Handing out gift cards in a parking lot was a pretty good compromise the Texas police tried. While the north Texas story above was pretty good, id still prefer to avoid the police until I need them. My reward is NOT getting pulled over!

I originally hail from Phoenix, and around the holidays (when traffic peaks anyway, plus they have so many winter visitors) the PD used to do a promotion where they would indeed pull people over for driving courteously. Not just obeying the traffic laws, but just courtesy to the fellow driver/pedestrian, etc. I think you got $25 or something if you got one.
I haven't lived there in years, so I don't know if they still do that or not. |

They do, but instead of gift cards, they're giving away free one way trips to Latin America.
