January 2012 Employment Report

For Whatever Reason, It Got Better

Job growth was widespread in the private sector, with large employment gains in professional and business services, leisure and hospitality, and manufacturing. Government employment changed little over the month.

Among the major worker groups, the unemployment rates for adult men (7.7 percent) and blacks (13.6 percent) declined in January. The unemployment rates for adult women (7.7 percent), teenagers (23.2 percent), whites (7.4 percent), and Hispanics (10.5 percent) were little changed. The jobless rate for Asians was 6.7 percent, not seasonally adjusted.

Obama? Why would he get any credit? Those who were hoping for bad news are actually hoping that the nation fails.

These new jobs are the result of GWB administration policies that simply needed a little more time to materialize.

hey, I've gained back most of the stock losses I suffered after the 'Debt Ceiling" debacle, when the Tea Party Congress sent the stock market into a 2,000 point dive with their brilliant idea that America should tell the rest of the world we had no intention of honoring our legally incurred debts, debt run up by prior administrations which the liars tried to portray as somehow "Obama's fault". Of course, none of us are where we were when Bush sent the market into a 5,000 point tailspin with his bank shenanigans. And Obama, according to them, is our "worst president" - an astounding claim seeing how the previous president passed unfunded drug benefits, tax cuts financed with borrowed money in a massive give-away of our national wealth to the rich 1%, two botched wars, one of which was an act of mass murder costing us trillions and destroyed any and all good will we had in a world thatnow saw us as no better than Nazis, and on the way out the door, hands us an economy in complete collapse. And Obama is the "worst president"? What exactly has he done to compare to that? He's actually been digging us out of the Bush hole ever since. Iraq is over, Afghanistan is about to be, GM was saved by the Stimulus, and now the job market is finally coming back. And the GOP wants us to go back to what they gave us? A disaster? A country centered around giving a free ride to the super rich? More insane wars? Thanks, but no thanks, I'll take Obama's slow but steady progress over the flat-out crazy world they gave us under Bush, where we murdered kids over phony WMDs while billions disappeared and the rich hijacked America into "corporate personhood" . Thanks, but no thanks.

Oh, and more bad news for the haters, the market is up 150 pts on the news.

The haters will complain it's too little too late, or has nothing to do with the President, or something, anything, and their tools will listen and believe. Just wait.

Not too dissimilar to the "George Bush ruined the world, burned plastic, and killed thousands of babies!!!" crowd from a few years ago, eh? It rolls downhill...both ways.

Call me a hater if you like: I find it bizarre that the participation rate slipped from 64.0% last month to 63.7% this month, which is the lowest it's been since at least 2002. Yeah, some people are retiring, but if unemployment really dropped from over 10% to 8.3%, I'd expect to see some rise in participation, or at least no drop.

As far as favorite candidates, I wish to hell that Huntsman was still in the running, but I'll take Obama over either Newt or Mitt!!

And regardless of the news, SPWR rose from ~6.6 to 6.94, and GOOG rose from 6.85 to 6.95, so I made some money scalp-trading. Hoping for either some bad news or some good news next week, maybe a little of both. Volatility is my best friend, and it makes for fun times.

Nor am I crying about the lower participation rate -- fewer people that can qual for a mortgage, so I have more of a chance to snap up some distressed property before the government buy-to-rent program snaps into full swing. (Right now, they're testing with 500-1000 homes and only in a few markets. To qualify investors, test sales, and evaluate the results will take 6-12 months, which is just dandy peachy with me. Govno-mint working slow is to my advantage, since I don't have enough dough to qualify to buy thousands of homes at once, and anyway, don't want to be a "partner of Fannie Mae" in a "new investment vehicle." Prefer to be my own investment vehicle.)

Hmmm..... That report doesn't seem to factor in the three million that have given up on trying to find a job. Of course if that fact were advertised I guess it wouldn't reflect well on our politicians in DC. Spin can correct everything.
