What is a taurus SHO's 0-60? Also if anyone knows its top speed? Keep seeing them around me, want to know if i could take one =P

Which year of SHO are you referring to?? Latest SHO(V8 powered) isn't a quick one... 0-60 in high-7's, earlier model with 5-speed is in low-mid 7's..

I owned one of the first SHOs built, a 1989 model manufactured in late 1988. These early SHOs were the fastest, as the car grew a little bit of weight over time. Acceleration times in various magazine tests ranged from 6.4 to 6.7 seconds for the 0-60 sprint. Quarter mile times were 15.0@93MPH, give or take a little bit. The car actually feels faster than these numbers indicate because the engine is a high RPM screamer. The pull is amazing from 4000RPM to redline, but it doesn't get out of the hole all that well.

The car would hit the 7300RPM rev limiter in 4th gear, which amounts to 144MPH. In fifth gear it could only pull up to the high 130s.

It wasn't perfect, but I liked mine well enough to keep it for almost 10 years. There's a ton more information at the SHOtimes website - http://www.shotimes.com

couldn't help but do a search. i am looking at my girlfriend's cousin's 1994 E420. but, at this moment, i drive a 1992 Taurus SHO 5 speed. i'm not defending my car just giving some facts.

it's a yamaha designed and built 3.0L DOHC 24V V6. redline is 7300 rpms, although, with a chip (and underrdrive pullies to save accessories) the car will hit 8,000, no problem. it was tested at 8500 rpms for 1.5 hours with NO damage.

they are definatly no match for boosted MB 6s and new V8 powered cars (especially AMG), but they're no slouches by any stretch. they are hard to launch due to an open differential, weigh 3300-3400 lbs (except for the light 1989 SHOs), and the torque peak doesn't hit until 2900 rpms. actually there are two torque peaks because of it's dual stage intake design. the second being at 3950 rpms when the secondaries open.

really beautiful engines. check out shoforum.com or shotimes.com to see where i'm coming from. the intake is just lovely.

as far as performance, again no match for the real fast MBs, but not slow either. i have a hard time believing the saab comment. if you can drive, they are high 14 second cars. if you can't get a decent 60', then low 15s. my friend has a fully optioned 1993 5 speed with a sho shop y-pipe and bfg drag radials. he ran a 14.70. the car weighs over 3400 lbs and he weighs 230 lbs. not bad for a little 3.0L

as far as modding, the sho shop has built many a monster. 521 front wheel HP is the top dog with the 3.2L (bored), extrude honed intake, cams and and an 18 psi vortech blower. this will be eclipsed soon as their first stroked 3.6L put down 478 HP to the wheels with stock cams and 12 psi of boost.

again, fun cars. true nowhere near as well built as a benz, but not a joke either.

like the 500E in conjunction with porsche...and the SHO with yamaha...

i was questioning if my 500E can take...i'm assuming it will now :)

i'll tell you what, another car that surprised me was the mid 90's Chevy Imapala SS

Stock that sucker came with 17" wheels and 255/50/17 tires, that's pretty nice. Even with my EVOII's on my 500E i'm packin 245/45/17

I had no clue what it was, and i saw one on the parkway. We floored it next to each other, and my 500E wasn't pulling on him like it normally pulls on cars, he was dropping back, but dropping back extremely slow...

yeah, a 500E is a fast little bastard! they are probably in the high 13 second range, right? (drag strip et).

here's a little more info from the sho shop and others:

highest WHEEL HP from a n/a SHO is 265 HP. from a bored 3.2L, cams, extrude honed intake, yada yada yada. this will also be eclipsed by the stroker 3.6L

the current top dog in the making is a fellow bay area resident. the car will have 3.6L, 15 psi vortech blower, custom billet crank, bored throttle body, stage II race cams, extrude honed intake 80mm maf, quaife lsd, baer 13" vented front brakes, stock headers, y-pipe, catback. i'm guessing around 550 wheel HP. over 600 crank HP.

the top n/a SHO, drag wise, is actually pretty tame. but the guy can drive. 3.2L from an auto SHO (the automatics had 3.2L), only dynoed 216 to the front wheels. but it is a no option 89 SHO. the car is about 3,000 lbs. even. it does 13.9 normally aspirated and 12.9 with a 100 shot.

i was riding shotgun with my friend in his 1990 supercharged SHO with 12 psi of boost for 12 laps at sear point during a shelby america meet. i swear when he hit it, i almost flew through the back window! lol! the car dynoed 447 HP to the front wheels.

blown SHOs don't do all that well at the drags, usually settle around 13 seconds flat. this is b/c they are front wheel drive and have MAJOR traction issues, most have big brake kits, so you can't run smaller rims with drag slicks, NO ONE has ever tried running some "steamrollers" up front and spring spacers in the back. a lowered compression engine is REALLY GUTLESS down low and a centrifugal blower doesn't get cooking until 4,000 rpms (and then builds boost, you don't get it all at once). which is fine, because many blown SHOs are redlining up to 8200 rpm. it's funny to see them drag, they basically forfeit the first 1/8th mile and go like a jet for the second 1/8th once they get traction.

fun cars, real cheap to buy, fairly cheap to mod, and real annoying to maintain :p the yamaha motor is pretty solid, but everything ford that surrounds it falls apart:D

that's all. don't want to bore you guys.lets hope i can get this 1994 E420. only problem is that i don't know if i'm ready to part with SHO. that's okay though. i'll be in good company. the founder of our baysho club has a 2000 M5. just can't let go of his SHO. it now has a built and cammed 3.2L in it. he races it b/c a SHO fender is $30 at the bone yard. not quite the same with the M5 :D another member has a 996. no bad, eh?

oh yeah, as far as the saab story. anything is possible on the street. also, the SHO could have been an automatic SHO with a slipping tranny. my lord those trannies SUCK!

there are also many factors i won't bore you with concerning maitenance. you can have a slow SHO if it is abused and not maintained.

as far as the impalla SS. they aren't all that impressive stock, but they do have a corvette LT1 350 in there. i've seen 10 second 4,000 lb impailers before :D and it doesn't take all that much to hit 13 with them.

another car that is really responsive to mods is the 1997-present pontiac gran prix GTP. OHV 3.8L V6 with an eaton blower. pulley, downpipe, t-stat, pcm (shift program) and you are hitting high 13s for about $1500 out of pocket!

anybody go to sears point (infineon now) wednesday night drags? i went to watch my friend drag his SHO with nitrous. saw a Z06 hit the wall at 70 mph. ouch! still had paper plates too!

real fun. my friends keep calling me the king of benchracers b/c i never take my car to the track. i guess i will have to. although it is kind of fun to annoy them by NOT racing :p

Not sure how the cars hold up in the sunny south, but up here, no SHO can be made fast enough to outrun the rust. Most look like brown lace curtains now.

My Dad thought about one back in 89, and I fell over at the near $40K price tag. He bought a T-Bird SC for waaaaay less, and it turned out to be total junk too. Glad he wasted less money.

I had a 1993 SHO that had the chip, underdrive pulleys and a CNC machined intake (yes each individual runner was re-worked) and an C&L 73mm mass air meter. I never really had it on the track, but at the same time I was never beaten in any of the "stop light grand prix) that I participated in on a daily basis. The car itself had exceptional build quality, although that Yamaha engine was a PIA to work on. Essentialy I had to remove most of the top part of the engine to replace the spark plugs & wires.

My best time with my 91+ SHO 5-Speed was 14.7 in the 1/4. That was with a SHO-Shop Y-pipe and a slipping clutch. Tourqe steer was pretty fun at launch:p

The only problem I ever had with it was the Crank Position Sensor and scraping all of the skin off my knuckles while changing the 3 rear spark plugs :rolleyes:

as for the getting the E420, what year?

The 420's a really nice, I do happen to like them alot. Their V8 has quite a kick to it. Go for the 420 man, you won't be dissapointed. Tho I know my 500E is VERY high matenance, but, it's the price you pay I guess.

I saw one of the new lancer evolutions last night. I must say, it caught my eye. I liked the rear end, the wing matched the car. Came with decent stock wheels, not too bad of a front end. I just didn't like how tall the hood was. But definately decent looking.
