Lesson for today's teenagers...

Warning...language is slightly graphic.

Father Teaches Daughter Lesson About Facebook*Video

This is similar to what my oldest daughter experienced 2 years ago, minus the handgun. Her computer met it's fate with a 32oz ball peen hammer. I just wish I had thought enough ahead to tape it and post it.

I hope he takes the lock off the daughter's door so Jr. can wake his favorite sitter on Saturday morning... *snicker!*

Assuming this is real and not some viral fake like many others, I doubt this fellow's response came out of the blue and I for one don't believe it's a one-time, uncharacteristic response to his daughter's display of disrespect. He probably paid for that laptop, what a ridiculous, teenaged thing to do to a perfectly good machine he's admitted to recently spending money and time on. I suspect this type of acting out is probably typical of him, and I'd bet a paycheck he's a reactive rather than proactive parent. Obviously, his daughter's FB post wasn't her first naughty act either. Most kids goof up and act out one way or another, but her post was extreme. Extreme acting out is often in my experience learned behavior.
In 31 years of teaching I found that better than 90% of the time you can predict what a kid's parents are going to be like based solely on the child's attitudes, aptitudes and behaviors. Yeah, sure, there are bad apple kids that seemingly come out of nowhere in spite of their parents' best efforts, but they're rare.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not taking the child's side here. I had very high expectations for my kids and they all lived up to them, and there were serious consequences for bad decisions. A proactive parent sets clear guidelines and sticks to them. My guess is this guy let things get way out of hand before he tried to do anything about it. Then again maybe he'd had a serious, calm heart to heart talk with his precious little darlin' and said "now sugar, you know what will happen if you don't behave yourself like a lady on FaceBook, right?" To which she responded "Yes daddy, if I'm bad you'll take it out in the yard and shoot it with your gun and I'll have to pay for the ammo."
If that's the case, more power to him. :-)

Possible, yes...But I doubt it. Momma said to add a bullet for her. sounds like it's been a problem for awhile. Just my guess.

Jeez, what a self-satisfied bleeping nimrod. Oh yeah, she needs to pay him back for the bullets. What a lousy bit of symbolism.

They walk among us. Guy will likely be a douche for the next several lifetimes.

When my kid asked me if he could get paid for chores I told him I'd gladly give him the money I make for chores if he took them over. End of story.

Couldn't agree more. The dad seems like he is making the situation about himself. He is going to show everyone what happens when someone spites him! Seems like a loser to me. If one of my children did something like that I would be mortified but I would never feel the need to bring the entire world into my situation as he seemingly did.

It seems his motivation is to show all of his daughter's facebook friends "what happens" when you do something like that to him. Who cares what other KIDS think? He needs to be the adult, not a kid and deal with the situation as an adult.

Funny, yes (and it may indeed not be real) but if this is how the dad acts all the time then indeed the apple does not fall far from the tree.

Also that video guarantees that she gets no dates for the next four years.

I'm with you and ElChivito. If this is a real video, the guy is an adolescent loser. I can understand where he is coming from, but being the parent requires some self-control and an ability to think before you act. How can you expect your kids to grow up and be responsible adults when they have no role model? Shooting a perfectly good laptop, and one he just spent money on, is the action of an immature little punk.

I'm willing to bet that he was breaking the law by discharging the firearm where he did as well. I saw cars in the background, probably not a legal place to shoot. What will he do for an encore when his daughter turns that video over to the cops and he gets cited for illegal discharge of a weapon?

He should take some of the time and energy he spent putting together that little video, and spend some time talking with his daughter.

And couldn't he put the cig down long enough to do his little one man play??

I think it was pretty much a POS laptop anyway. Why in the hell would you have to spend so much to upgrade the software? Plus the guy's in IT. Hmm...
