How do you feel about Valentine's day?

You guys do anything special with your S.O. for national consumerism day? I mean national obligated-to-spend-money-on-a-woman-more-than-usual (or guy I guess) day? For women its the annual get-spoiled day

I'm just going to make a nice dinner, thinking grilled shrimp scampi over linguini, bit of steamed broccoli and bruschetta. I'm lucky in that we both agree that its an extremely consumer-driven holiday. I'd rather do something nice than spend any money.

Consumerist crapload or genuine holiday?

Not a national holiday so it doesn't do much in that department. I'm not going to cook since the judge warned me that the next attempt would get me to prison for attempted poisoning of a person so for us, it is an evening we go out and have dinner for sure. Pretty good deal since we have an event that we can make sure we make time for each other out of the busy schedule

I don't need a holiday to tell me to buy my girlfriend gifts.

She just needs to shave and drop the robe, right? That works for me.

We've been away from home a LOT seeing to my Mom and her business while she's in the hospital. Sunday at breakfast my wife INSISTED that I should not get her a card or anything since we've been buried in everything that's going on.

So, what happens this morning? She has a card and a gift for me. I think it might be wise for me to make a stop on the way home.

Not only wise but necessary or this will be held as a trump card over you for the rest of your life.

Yep, I haven't made it 37 years with her by not recognizing such issues.

Its a totally manufactured "holiday" by Hallmark, the candy industry , ( Big Candy?), florists ( Big Flower), and other retailers. I feel coerced into buying something "or else".

Nevertheless, I took flowers home with me last night. Wife bought me some special " Baltimore" fudge by Wockenfuss.
( Married 41 years--some would say "well-trained")

If the valentine fire wasn't actually STARTED by those that you list, they for sure have thrown a lot of gasoline on it.
