Winter??? 2012

What a difference a year makes!

Winter 2011-12 (Today 2/14)

How's the winter been in your neck of the woods? Even you warm weather guys? Warmer than normal? Colder? Dryer? Wetter/Snowier?

Yeah, this winter has been fit for a bunch of namby-pamby kathoeys.

All of the wimps who are gloating about enjoying it should get on a plane to Florida and die in a hurricane. Dammit! I love snow. Worst damn winter ever.

After last year's winter, I decided to pick up a few more 4X4 vehicles, other than the wife's truck. Sadly, I haven't had the need to even try them out yet...hardly any snow this year.

Perhaps I'll get the chance this spring in the mud.

Warm and dry in the Baltimore area. Not complaining.

I have been watering NATIVE trees all winter. I'm not complaining about the mild temps and drought, I personally can't take more than about 3 cloudy days in a row without becoming an impossible grouch, but i also know there won't be any grass this spring and my hay bills are steadily going up. Texas and Oklahoma are sending semi trailers to AZ to buy alfalfa due to their own drought, and the price is through the roof. The bagged Chaffhaye I normally feed the horses is made in Texas and is unavailable here now. I'll be dealing with sand-belly before long. The price of a nice, mild winter.

Personally, I love the snow. I got out of the snow removal business this year, definitely not a good winter to count on $now-wise. I bet there will be a slew of well-optioned plow trucks on the market that were bought after last years boom and have seen little to no use this year. There have been a LOT of new trucks running around town since this past spring.

One thing I learned early on was to never count on the snow to make ends meet. I'm afraid a sizable number of contractors are learning that lesson the hard way, they've got to be in way over their heads.

I love it, I just keep popping in foundations.

Fingers crossed the asphalt plants open a bit early this year! I have 300ft of road and 3 driveways that need paving, and probably 2 more driveways by April!

We were having a pretty dry winter, but it's currently snowing like an Oedipus. I'm planning on driving my glued-together '71 POS to work tomorrow to keep my '83 out of the salt.

Summer trumped fall here, fall has carried over to meet spring and there has been precious little snow.

Not complaining.

I am wondering how it will affect the birds and the bees.

Good for you, Chris! Take advantage of it.

Many of our golf course customers, especially in southern New England, are still getting rounds of golf in. Which is a good thing for them, which in turn is a good thing for us, since they lost the fall rounds because of the tropical storm and Halloween Nor'easter. Hopefully they can bolster those coffers a bit so they can spend it with me.

I've actually gotten in a few rounds here in New England this winter, not something that one can typically accomplish.

I typically attribute a nice looking course to Hart's seed.

You definitely picked a good year to exit the snow business. Personally, I'm shocked at this lack of winter, my plow truck has been down all winter, so naturally I was expecting record snowfall...
