Bought the Jaguar

Well guys, I took the plunge and drove my "new" 1989 XJS home today! I remember working on them a long time ago and vowed I'd never own one, but something got the best of me today! I will admit that the ride is sooo damn fluid smooth though! And that V-12 does indeed purr! I have a laundry list of things to do on it and thus far it includes:

-New front and rear brakes
-New brake accumulator
-New tires (soon)
-Steering rack bushings
-Diff seals
-Cam cover gaskets
-Dump that exhaust system with four catalysts in favor of a European setup with ZERO cats!

Should be a nice runner when everything's all done! Can't wait!
Oh, and all the electrics work!! Whew!

Uhmmm...pictures Aaron. Where's the pictures????

Aaron 02-08-2002 01:27 AM

Mike,

Haha, I wasn't sure if pics would be appropriate on this site, but since you asked, I'll take some tomorrow afternoon!

Hey, don't worry guys, I'll NEVER stray from my first love, Mercedes. This is just fulfilling a different "need", lol!

The need for 12 cylinders!

Hey Aaron,

Did you know that Jag invented the Intermintint wiper? By accident !!

Good luck and I hope you enjoy it .

John,

Yes, I believe it was the Lucas Electrics firm who invented it!

Drove it around some today, found a rough idle when in gear but smooth in park and smooths out immediately when throttle is applied. Going to diagnose further tomorrow...Otherwise, love it!

Aaron,

Your right, I thaught they were one and the same.

Aaron,

Congratulations on the latest acquisition! A friend had a XJS and he liked it a lot except for some of the minor problems. At least until it caught fire and burned to a number of aluminum globs and plastic cinders. I am guessing that, perhaps even unknown to you, you are doing a build-up for the MB rollback truck you mentioned a little while ago?!?!?!?

I can see why you got it. It is an awsome car.

Today I saw this in Illinois:

1989 Jaguar XJS
V12, Only 60K Miles, Convertible
$10,995

My friend has a 1991 xjs v-12 he inherited form a relative who passed away. The car had 14k on the odo when he got it. now it has 17k on the odo.

He rarely drives it. It is dark metallic blue on blue interior.

Drives like a champ, but since it is a car that sits often and sat for a while, it has some area's where moisture from storage caused some problems. He has had to replace almost all hoses, and the entire braking system, and had the entire fuel system flushed as well as all other fluids.

But now the car drives like a dream and it has very low mileage to boot.

Alon
