Linking to forum threads from google search

On various computers (PC, Mac), and my iPhone, if I'm searching for something and it links to a thread in this forum, every time it redirects to a "tinyurl" site. I copied the URL last time, which was this:

TINYURL4.INFO - free url redirection and masking service

Nothing like this ever happens if I come into this site straight, and it doesn't happen going to any other website, ever.

Anyone else notice this?

Any particular reason you'd do it that way instead of coming to this site directly?

There have been times when I've searched for terms in google that link here.

Say I search "oil capacity w123 240D OM616" in google, I might get a lot of things, and some of them might be forum threads. I've often searched for things in google that link to a thread here.

Because the in built search engine is total crap.

I've been having this trouble for about 3 weeks or so now.

I think it originates from google rather than this site - although it might be the way in which the threads are referenced on this site. The old way of showing links on the forum was to show the actual URL - now a system of getting the title from the page name / thread name is used. This name shortening process is handle by 'tinyurl" see =>

TinyURL - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I think Wayne at Pelican parts (the owner) may be able to say some more about this.

You will notice, however, that if you click on the link to peachparts in google a second time you will reach the page you wanted and not that bell end tinyurl site.

google has been making it difficult to actually pull down the correct URL for a site or document for a long time. Clicking the link gets you there, but if you just want to right click and copy the link, it is total garbage.

That has always been the case - however you will see the url you want in there somewhere... (well he says always - for at least 4 years may be longer - there's some sort of search engine referral thing going on there I think)

Odd thing here. I disabled a bunch of plugins and then it went away. I re-enabled them, and it wasn't back either. I predict it was a memory-based issue with PHP. I just upgraded the Tapatalk plugin, and PHP - I hope that will resolve the issue.

Please let me know via PM if you see it again!

Thx,

Wayne
