Chrysler Crossfire

I have just read that the forthcoming Chrysler Crossfire is essentially a reskinned and fixed headed SLK. It uses the same floorpan, V-6 engine and even the dashboard.

This cannot be good for MB, can it?

Ssang Yong of Korea has been building one of its models on the 300E platform, with the same (albeit detuned) powertrain for almost a decade. I would just start to worry if it were the other way around and the new SLK were built on the neon platform.

LarryBible 02-08-2002 07:16 AM

Yes, that's the worry I have as well. I saw a TV ad the other night with MB's and Chrysler's in the same ad. God help us all!

Have a great day,

OH NO! It deeply saddens me to learn of this. Damn it MB, don't start mixing Chrysler and Mercedes parts!

Frank X. Morris 02-08-2002 08:44 PM

Howdy All
The Jeep people are worried about platform sharing also. They think MB will ruin Jeep.
Boy!¡ I guess it depends on what side of the fence you are on.

Kuan 02-09-2002 07:13 AM

You have got to be joking, I mean, you have GOT to be joking! I guess it also depends on what you mean by "ruin." Surely they don't think that a Jeep is a better vehicle than a Mercedes Benz do they? Maybe they're just talking about Jeep styling and history.

I guess those Jeep guys have never met a G-Wagon

SV 02-09-2002 01:57 PM

Damn.
I was hoping this wouldn't happen.

Frank X. Morris 02-09-2002 08:07 PM

Howdy All,
Don't shoot me I'm just the piano player:) Jason; They have heard of the G and they can buy 2 Wranglers and "build" them up for the price of one Gwagen:rolleyes: Kuan; I'm not!¡ They blamed Ma Benz for dropping the very off-road capable Cherokee for the IFS mall cruiser Liberty. I don't know who they will give credit to for bringing the new Wrangler called the Rubicon. Dana 44 axles with lockers and a few other improvements. The Dana 44 axle is the most popular axle for the hardcore rockcrawler. Yes they are worried about the styling and history also. Gee!¡ I didn't say anything about Mogs :)

That is because Chrysler and MB had merged for 3 years. I think it was three years. Might have been more. When they merged, thousands of Jews returned their Chryslers. No Joke.

You realized that some of the participants in this particular thread passed away recently, right?

No, my condolences to their families.

While I never met him personally, Kuan was like a son to me, and I'll miss his insight and the spirit of camaraderie that he brought to this place. I'm probably not a sentimental person; certainly not one given to emotional displays, but if all who read my words would just take a moment to say a quiet prayer in his honor, or just keep him in your thoughts, even briefly, it would mean something to me.

It was the Octomom pictures that did it, wasn't it.

I know that if he was here that he would appreciate such humor - he was always so irreverent.

I thought that it was a beautiful gesture that Kuan's wife took over his membership on this forum and continues to post to this day. Stay strong, Mrs. Kuan, stay strong...
