E320 maintenance I-6 twin cam

'94 estate; I've observed that these cars have failed automatic transmissions just B-4 200K miles.
QUESTION: can the life be extended by religious oil & filter changes of transmission?
2nd issue: I've observed the head gaskets fail about the same time.(see above)
QUESTION: CAN THIS problem be quashed by regular changes of coolant & using recommended type. It is my experience overheating is main cause of head gasket failures & warping but this is in reference to jap vehicles.
I'd appreciate members feed back no flip responses please this is as serious as a heart attack, If you want to be a wise ass go talk to your teenager.

Unfortunately, there's no absolute answer. Vigilance and routine maintenance reduce, but do not eliminate, the issues you raise. Too much depends on style of useage, location, and luck. I've seen M103 and M104 gasket leaks show up well before any overheating issues and where MB approved coolant was always used. I've also seen those same motors with no issues ever occuring at all and with less than perfect maintenance by the owner and subsequent owners.

I've seen the trannys make it to 250k with proper fluid/filter change. It would not surprise me if they will make it out further though.

I suspect the head gasket is just something that is going to happen anytime past around 200k.
