U.S. Coast Guard loss

Just wanted the group to know we are mourning the loss of our shipmates. USCG Rescue Helo 6535 went down in Mobile Bay last night with the loss of all hands. The CG rescue community is a close one, and this is a horrible loss for us.

Search continues for Coast Guard helicopter crew; wreckage to be recovered today (photo) | al.com

Links to local news coverage.

Military training flights make up a large percentage of local air traffic. Accidents are few but not rare.

Semper Peratus.

Where no mothers cry
And no children weep,
We shall stand and guard
Though the angels sleep,
Oh, through the ages let us keep
The Mansions of the Lord

With deepest sympathy to the families of the crew.

Military service always has been and always will be dangerous work. Even in peacetime endeavors. Those who put on the uniform of their branch of service are in a very real way putting their life on the line for us. We should never forget how much they are committing to our security. The crew knew the risk was real, however small it may have been. What humbles me is to think that they thought you, I and the rest of us were worth the risks. I hope we can prove them right.

With a small history of my family being involved in flight, my condolences go out to you and yours, as well as the families of the departed.

REGARDLESS the job assignment our government sees fit to put these men & women to, we should never forget that they, and only they alone, are willing to do what the rest of us fear, or are unable, to do ourselves.

Their hours had turn into days, which in turn, became months, then years...

Their vigil was non-stop, their pay, a mere pittance, but their moral character and fortitude could never be measured, nor matched, by mere men.

Only God knows what truly laid in their hearts and minds everytime a call came out for their help and assistance.

May He give them peace when they come to meet Him and may their families remember and appreciate their decisions that THEY put themselves in harm's way to protect those that could not protect themselves.

Brave coast guardsmen killed in the line of duty. They were simply doing their job. Whether or not you agree with the mission is immaterial.

Just ask a Vietnam vet.

Most Viet vets, drafted or not were spurned upon their return.

If you don't follow orders in the service, you won't be there long.
