Out on the town with the Benz

Hi everyone!

I would just like to know, when going out with freinds or family lets say to a movie or dinner or a club, would you take your freinds or relatives car or your benz? Also, where do some people go out with their benzes for fun with people?

(example: movies, clubs, restaurants)

Since I am 19 and go out with freinds alot to these types of places, I would like to see where others go with their benz.

Most importantly, it takes me to the shop where I make money!

Otherwise, the 250SE and the 6.9 go to shows during the summer months. The 280SL is under restoration and the 450SL's restoration is just being completed, at the paint shop. The rest of 'em are drivers.

I try to drive whenever we go out with friends. Sometimes we have relatives who think their Explorer is the greatest thing since sliced bread and we have no choice. I HATE to ride in other people's tincans, especially if it's a longish ride. To make matters worse, very few of these people observe what I call Mercedes sensibility. They don't keep their distance, never signal, speed through residential neighbourhoods, don't wear their seatbelts, roll through stop sign, etc. What can I say to people? Excuse me, your Ford Explorer is unsafe because the tire pressure is only at 26 psi. It might explode and we might rollover.

Anyway I'm off the subject again. People in general love to ride in the Benz. Those who have never ridden in it are amazed by the quality of the leather and the ride when compared to other SUV's. My wife also gets to entertain a lot of guests who come into town from other parts of the world. We drove through the snow one night to go to dinner downtown because our guest's rental car came without a snowbrush! :) Yep, I go everywhere with it.

When I'm out socially I always prefer to drive, at work I drive off road most of the day so I have to use the company Ford Ranger 4x4.Before Frank gets his 2 cents in, yes I have asked and NO I can't have a Moggy!it's still fun to drive though.
After work is done though nothing beats the enjoyment I get out of driving my beautiful Mercedes, apart from driving someone else's if their paying for the fuel!(I've already mentioned in a previous post how damned expensive it is over here.)
As soon as most of my friends find out what I drive out of work I get elected to drive anyway!Nowt as queer as folk, whenever I mention my 20 year old Merc I get the jibes and taunts about vintage cars. Then as soon as were going out their motors just don't match up on the class and respect front.
Kuan gets it bang on the button with the simple fact that most people don't have Mercedes sensibility. If the rest of humankind had cars that were as expensive to repair as ours perhaps people might drive a lot better. Then again if everyone drove mercedes who could we look down on at the traffic lights!
I've rambled on a bit here sorry, but you did ask:-Bear

I always drive. My friends all drive as if……………they are distracted or on valium, or both!!!!

As to where to go for fun: that’s easy: 2x per week I drive 82 miles through rain, slush, snow and ice to ski, then another 82 miles through ice, snow, slush and rain home again. Sometimes I even bring passengers, when I can’t get out of it…

I had a friend who always insisted we take his 1990 Honda Accord EX automatic wherever we went. I eventually began driving myself on "group trips" because A. he was a poor driver and given to fits of road rage and B. he drove a tinny Honda which would probably fare quite poorly in any type of collision. And C. he had horrid taste in music, to boot. He would listen to Britney Spears and TLC, et cetera while I would roll my eyes and wish I was listening to Peter Frampton or GNR.

Looking back on it, he had a kind of a controlling mentality, and poor taste in automobiles to boot...

Poor misguided SOB....

Howdy All,
Whenever I got in the "Benz" to go socialize I would go find a nice big pile of dirt and there would be my friends:) Bear!ˇ A big strong boy like you, and the little lady says no Moggy :)

BenzOnline 02-10-2002 02:04 AM

This all usually appllies to me also. My freinds always want to go"pimpin" in the benz.

What are some things that make you mad that freinds would do in your benz?

Mine are: pushing the floormats in the back, under the front seats, messing around with the powered back seat, and in the winter, not shaking off the snow off their shoes before getting in.

Bear 02-10-2002 04:11 AM

My old lady loves the Benz Frank, it's just my tight fisted employer wont buy me a Moggy!
Benzonline things that make me mad that my friends do whilst in my Merc are:-

1.I don't smoke so I don't want their tobacco smell messing up the interior of my car.
2.Dropping rubbish, sweet papers etc on the floor.
3.Spilling stuff on the seats floor, actually anything within a 5 yard radius of my car.
4.Being disrespectful of my car whilst travelling in it guarantees the winning commentee a long walk home!
5.People who communicate with other drivers (abusive behaviour.)
6.Finally if they can't respect that she is getting to be a venerable old lady, and shouldn't be treated like the average metal boxes they drive. Then don't expect me to drive them.

P.S. There is definately no shagging ( British expression meaning to have sex,and they wondered why the record The Shag did so well over here!)over the bonnet/hood!!

I gotta say, I'm probably the only person who has ever successfully wrested control of Ben's car from him. :) And yes, that car gets detailed every week!

My Back Seat

Ben since I've just replaced the back seat today that's off limits as well now! Bear

Since I'm 21, most of my friends tease me about being an old man after I picked the Mercedes as my first car.

Girls are curious to see the car when they find out that is what I drive, and seem to have a certain level of respect for the car and respect for me after a ride in it. It is definitely a conversation piece. After the new rims are on it, I will definitely need a hosting page so I can post some pics. I am envious of all you guys posting pics!!!!!

Take care everyone,

BenzOnline, your not very far away from me.
We need a Mercedesshop Ontario Meet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yah, I think we need an ontario meet!!:)

But, where?

SHYNE 02-10-2002 01:30 PM

I am not sure but, would be open to suggestions.

It would be a small meet, I think it would be around 6 people.

Are you a member of the Mercedes-Benz Club of Canada?

Mike McKinney

BenzOnline 02-10-2002 01:39 PM

No I am not a member but I would love to be! How do I join and how much does it cost. I am only 19.
