Exclamation Should I buy a 02 C230 KOMPRESSOR for $7500??

Hey folks,

Im usually a diesel guy but this one caught my eye locally..

70K miles and looks to be in good shape. Priced right at blue book

Im going for a drive tomorrow.... What should I look out for?

Any "common" and or EXPENSIVE issues with this model??

Possible expected repairs (based on miles) in the near future?

thanks for any info from anyone that has owned one.

Rattles...and lot of them. Roof glass leaks. Transmission electronics ...subject to water in the connectors giving rise to Limp Mode, ie: 3rd gear.

Noisy Kompressor...will, even if good. Kompresssor manufacturer used a self destructing buffer drive and it wears out, as does the front pulley bearing.

A company in OKC repairs them for around $800.00 .

Seat material wears especially the suede option. Engine seems good enough. Other problems seem to be wheel speed sensors and brake pads.

Most of my customers wish they had not bought one.

That is the Mercedes that was and still the worst ever. IMHO I think Mercedes should apologize for the production of it. Many think the w203 sedan's are bad with squeeks and rattles. I will live with one or two that I have in my W203 vs. what you will hear in that. Rust issues, pano roof rattles, the transmissions have issues, the Kompressor Engine is just awful in everyway and should of not even been produced. With all my (-) now said if you really must get a 203 hatchback I would find a 05 C320. Last year + facelift and the 3.2 engine is superior in everyway.

My mother had a 2000 C230 Kompressor. It was a sweet driving car, but was a money pit. I don't recall which problems she had with it, but I do recall that the car was a disappointment from a reliability standpoint.

The 2000 C230 is the 202 body. The 2002 C230 is the 203 body. My 2000 C Class like your mothers car was a huge moneypit as well(Mine being the C280 with the V6). Reliable and never let me down but a huge money pit. However, my girlfriends 2000 C230K has been fine since day one (92k miles)
