Ford Powerstroke quarter mile 13.8 :D

Greetings peaches und pelicans. I took a decentish video of a quarter mile run from the Ford today. Clocked a 13.8 @104.1 mph which I am very pleased with.
Mods include
-Suncoast full race transmission
-190hp injectors
-replaced the VNT with Columbus Diesel's massive stage II (incredible turbo!!!)
-ARP studs, egr delete, updated oil cooler
-Detroit Locker diff
-Banks Monster exhaust (its a bloody sewer pipe!)
-Banks Intercooler
-Nitto Terra Grapplers
-Air shocks in rear
-Regulated Fuel Return from Driven Diesel
-Banks IQ that I basically use as a gauge
-as you can tell from the EGTs it's running a seriously HOT SCT tune. I enjoy making massive smoke plumes.

That's better than a stock W124 500E.

Excellent choice on the tranny!! Ron Wolverton makes some top-notch gear. I'm running one of the TC's that he developed specifically for the Jeep Liberty CRD in mine. Like night and day difference between his quality billet TC, and the POS gasser TC that Chrysler originally put in it - turned it into a whole different vehicle. Another fellow CRD owner in Charlotte made the trip down to FL and had Ron put in a fully worked up 545RFE tranny in his vehicle.

Regulated fuel return. I take it you no longer have a henhouse under the hood - ie, the infamous Powerstroke "cackle" is gone. IMHO, the biggest OEM design flaw of the Powerstroke - no fuel return - letting the fuel boil in the headers, and no place for any air to go, except thru the injectors.

Did you try the HPO pressure equalizing line from Driven Diesel as well?

What motor? 6.0 or 7.3? 2003 had both flavors?

What are they? Single shot? Split shot? cc?

It doesn't matter. You can only fit a 4 inch downpipe without serious modifications.

DP Tuner's work or canned tunes?

If he puts a BTS or Terminator dual pump, it does take down the cackle some but if the injectors are single shots it makes the noise come back.

His is a 6.0, one of the first

You wouldn't think something so huge and heavy could be so fast, then you break torque one and get flung back in your seat JT can't do that trick with his truck anymore.... even in 4wd it just lights up all 4 tires

I would imagine he can get some pretty decent fuel mileage with it too, if he keeps his foot out of it. IF...

I've got a 7.3L PS Econoline 350 that routinely hauls 2 tons that will get 20 mpg on the highway (when empty). Compare that to my '04 2500HD with the 6.0L gasser, pretty darn close GVW-wise, which is lucky to get 15.

Congrats!

I ran a best of 13.7 in my '96 neon coupe. Borrowed slicks, worst 150 wet shot setup ever, stock everything else. Only made one run before being thrown off the track, but it was a good time had by many members of my club.
I liked the car, until some chick decided it was "really important" to get to walmart by turning left in front of traffic.

New battery the day before the trip, and an oil change. Filled it up with gas 30 min before the crash.

Anyways, not threadjacking. I really appreciate what a wild tune with good gear can do on a PSD, very nasty! Love it!

Good luck, thats a cool rig. Drive safe!

Nice run!

Man, you got a lot of money in mods! I gave up on trying to get 500HP because it's just too expensive. Plus, my truck will never be competetive because it's got a manual transmission. The 6.0 also gives you an additional 1000 RPM and 2 more valves per cylinder to run with.

I stopped and a bigger HPOP, ball bearing turbo, open fuel system, exhaust, intake and a DP tuner 120HP tune with stock injectors.

Question: Why did your speedometer drop to 0 when you reached a certain speed?

Once you pass 100 it starts counting again from zero. The other thing I notice every time I start my Ford is that the "Check Gauges" idiot light is misspelled Check Gages.

I never set out to make a track monster. It's still a really capable farm truck, and one hellouva sleeper. I've been trying (and have bravely given up) on trying to make 'ole Herb the Six-Oh as fast as a certain local '12 E550 Cabriolet named "Bertha." How local? My mischievous partner in crime Merc Enthusiast Mum owns it. That car is ****ing quick! And utterly drama free. Adding speed in Bertha is like wiring a plug, simple and rapid. She has beaten me badly in every race ever.

Getting a launch out of the truck, on the other hand, requires a bit of special application. I leave my (manual) hubs locked unless I'm freeway cruising since I frequently require the 4Hi gearing. Unlike dudes with slicks and no care for their Torque Converters I don't do crazy boosted launches. I power brake to 1200rpm and when I let off the line I roll my foot down over the period of one second to apply the power in order for a decent 60ft time. Certainly very unlike Bertha where you tromp the gas, her ass squats, and off you go with a guttural snarl as ten scenery blurs.

Things I'm planning for the truck, traction bars, and as someone pointed out, better brakes That great big mother****er can be a bit unwieldily over 90. I like my sedate arthritic old Mercedes CArmada the most of the lot. There's something really special about motoring in something old you've saved from oblivion and fixed with your own hands, tools, time, patience, and knowledge.

When it comes to work on the truck I let a local shop RPM Offroad do the big work. Their guys are very smart and big trucks are clearly their passion. They frequently race the Baha 1000 (they were at the 250 this week) and have a good history of building tough trucks. They're really proud of Herb, and I offered Steve the bloke who did the lions share of the work the honorary first pass down the drag strip when the local drag racing opens at Bristol Drag Strip.
