US soldier killed 16 Afgans

I have been having a discussion with one of my lunch buddies about this.

He is a Vietnam Vet and says the Afganies got what they deserved. I say women and children?

He says the guy probably knew that the particular families were killing his buddies. I said he is making up his "facts" there has been nothing about that out (yet).

He also says we should have dumped Osama Bin Laden's body in pig blood and let the locals have it. He says that will deter the muslims from wanting to kill us since it will deny them going to heavan (or whatever they call it).

I say we should not do what our enemy does just because they do it. We lose if we lose our values. He says that is what they understand and will respect us more if we do.

Seems crazy to me.

Why are we still in that rathole of a country again? Put the guy who did it up against the wall or let the locals have him as a pet, pull the rest of the troops out, call it a day.

Very tragic...the reports I've heard have mentioned the guy has had mental issues. Sounds like someone who shouldn't have been there in the first place.

War is cruel. When incident like this happens, everybody lose. I feel sorry for the Afghans as well as the soldier. It is no different from someone going Postal. The bigger issue is how do we patch it all up?

This is the end result of going into a war without a precise EXIT strategy. The US is mired in 2 wars. Iraq is better but the end result is not what we expected. Don't you notice that GWB has not said a word about anything. Do I need to say more?

Both of you argued from made-up pseudo facts and your own preconceptions.

So give the guy a shot of Thorazine in the arse, except give him about 10x too much. Again: problem solved.

Sheet mon, Calley only ended up with house arrest till Nixon pardoned him.

I wonder if this Sgt. was stationed at Ft. Hood?
Maj. Nadal is still getting 3 squares a day...two years later. Trial just posponed....again .... till June.

It'll be interesting to monitor this American soldier follow the "alleged" Muslim murderer into the Army Court Martial thicket.

Different times, and that was wrong.

We are going to pay a steep price for making our servicemen and women continue making endless war. Correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think there has ever been a time in our country's history where we have called on them to continue to serve under this level of stress for so many years in a row. How many Vietnam vets served 4 consecutive deployments?

The difference is that troops now are volunteers, whereas if Vietnam-era soldiers would have been asked to do so, they probably would have mutinied and fragged their commanding officers. And rightly so.
