More audacious miltitary plans

I bet all of us here on OD can help VP Biden. He recently gushed that the President's decision to kill Osama was the most audacious military plan in the last 500 years. I applauded the President's decision, but I can name a few military plans over the last 500 years that were more audacious, how about you?
I'll start with the low-hanging fruit--
D-Day
Doolittle Raid
Inchon landing
Pearl Harbor
Operation Valkyrie
Raid on Entebbe
Defense of Little Round Top by Joshua Chamberlain
Pickett's Charge
R.E Lee splitting his forces before Antietam, and raiding Harper's Ferry
John Brown's attack on Harper's Ferry Arsenal
Fort Ticonderoga

Come on and add to the list--I already got the easy ones. Maybe we should send this to the VP so he can be better educated before he says anymore stuff to embarrass himself.

As much as I disagree with the President on so many things, he would be well advised to dump this idiot and pick a more qualified VP. I'd even support Jolly Roger as VP--He is far better educated and a better advocate than Biden.

So is Mr. Biden implying that Obama stood around a planning table and worked out the strategy?

I got a big laugh when I heard Obama in a speech right after they got Bin Laden saying something like, I put together Seal Team Six to capture Bin Laden.

I thought Seal Team 6 had been around quite awhile, but I'm not for sure.

I have little doubt that for Biden, it was the most audacious military decision he could imagine Obama making.

Lets face it. The phrase "most audacious military plan in the last 500 years" is not a precise statement. It is not like a batting average which has distinct parameters around its definition.

It is more like Muhammad Ali's saying...."I am the greatest".....it is imprecise so trying to quantify things more audacious just does not make any difference.

Biden liked it and wanted to say something large about it. Big deal.

It's a campaign season. We are going to hear a lot of fluff and pumped up baloney out of ALL the candidates. I don't really like our president, but I will give him credit for giving the ok for the hit. It needed to be done and he did it.

Biden is a freaking IDIOT....one breath away from the POTUS....I pray for Barry every night.....

Dudesky 03-21-2012 09:05 AM

At least Biden didn't say "this is a big ******* deal" this time.:D

Joe Biden says goofy things from time to time. He should have said 50 years instead of 500.

That said, he seems like a good person and well respected by those who know him. There is no way to really know these things, but I suspect that his years in the Senate and his knowledge of foreign affairs have been a big help to the President. If any of you who are throwing darts at him call yourselves Republicans, then I suggest you recall the saying about people who live in glass houses. Neither of your two most recent VPs is qualified to shine Biden's shoes.

Something that was apparently overlooked by McCain supporters in 2008.

Ain't that the truth?

Greatest military operation of the last 500 years? I don't think so. In fact, there were probably a hundred in World War II alone that would make this one just look like another day at work.

Well respected? Yeah I've known a few folks that were almost as goofy as him that I respected. Of course they had at least a little common sense unlike ol' Joe.

First of all, what was audacious about Obama (or any president for that matter) okaying a mission?

I would argue that just for audacity, Carter's attempted hostage rescue kicks Obama's ass.

Even Ford's Mayaguez rescue was more audacious.

Me too.

Jolly Roger isn't a plagiarist either. :D

Oh I don't know about that. It looked easy because it worked. That doesn't make it any less audacious.

I watched a two hour special on it recently. The military advisors to the President only gave it a 50% chance of success. Obama decided to go for it.

I would LOVE to go to Universal Studios in Hollywood and pitch a script for the Osama caper.

I think it would make a COOL movie and LOTS of money for Universal.

Who do you think should be cast as Osama bin Laden??!!! And his wives?
