Motor Oil / Filtration Discussion
I am a new guy to this forum and was introduced to it by one of your memebers, Kowached. I have had discussions with him on another forum specializing in that "other" brand of German car. I have had a 300TD in the past but currently do not own a Merc.
I happen to be an Amsoil dealer and have studied motor oils, tested products, studied oil analysis reports, etc. etc. so I might have something to offer. I admittedy would love to sell more Amsoil and admit to being somewhat biased but I try to be objective and you'll never see me criticizing any other products and/or anyone's decision to use them (except off the shelf oil additives). Here are a couple of points to open discussion (or perhaps start some arguments as the case may be); 1) I use Amsoil as I believe it has the best combination of synthetic base stock and additive package for passenger cars and more improtantly for long drain intervals in any vehicle, gas or diesel. 2) I have driven 15000 miles on one batch of Amsoil in my 196,000 mile BMW and oil analysis tells me that the oil is "suitable for continued use". This was without a bypass filter and full flow filter changed at 7900 miles. Extended drains work in most cases. The following link is a pdf copy of my oil analysis results http://undergrad.nova.edu/kevin/oilanalysis.pdf . I am 13,500 miles into another extended drain test so I'll post my results as they are available. 3) Oil analysis is paramount in any extended drain or oil comparison testing or discussion. Particularly for diesels. Here is a link on the lab I use; http://www.amsoil.com/products/g.html 4) Amsoil is pricey to buy but I would argue that you get what you pay for. If you are willing to drive for extended drains, it becomes more economical than other brands. I have heard people complain that it is hard to acquire. Yes it is very hard to find on store shelves but what could be easier than buying factory direct online with delivery right to your door? I can even get you good discounts that makes the pricing very competetive with off the shelf synthetics. Click on the link below for more info about the online store and the "Preferred Customer Program". Finally, I hope my message doesn't ruffle too many feathers and I look forward to discussion with you all. Don www.lubedealer.com/dstevens |
