Big Roll of the dice on this purchase

Starter seems bad, but I can't really tell. Dashed down there with the cash in the dark, towed it away. I bought it consider the worst case scenario that the motor is locked up and that's why the starter won't turn, but I doubt it.

Good luck - although I hope you won't need it.

A vehicle like that is the LAST thing I would ever buy in any condition, for myself though.

If the engine is seized, you can still make money on it. You could drop $2k into it and still make a few dollars off of it.

I've got a friend that has one with over 400k miles on the original engine and transmission. I asked him about how he got there with the tranny and he said he drains/refills it every year.

I would have thought that at that price you could get your money back by selling it as parts (in the worse case scenario).

if they already put a flywheel on it i would assume they turned the engine over somewhat just tightening the bolts.my guess is a bad starter drive.why can't i find deals like that around here.

At that price based on the picture, I would worry it is hot.

That's barely over scrap weight pricing.

You're rolling a loaded dice. Can't go wrong at that price. Odd that a person would replace a flywheel without replacing a starter.

Seems like you could part it out for double or triple that price. Or do like jp say and fix it up and still make money.

You can barely get a decent dinner for what you paid for that truck.

You'd be surprised. Some people shouldn't be allowed within 50 feet of anything that's mechanical, electrical, or electronic - I know, some of them I work with on a daily basis - they build Class 8 trucks for Freightliner!!

Unfortunately, based on what I've found so far this weekend, removing the injectors and prechambers on my current 87 300D, it's PO fell into that category as well.

If the body is good the price alone is worth it.

It would be hilarious if this was one bendix drive away from being a usable vehicle.
