Thinking about a new rifle...

I was kind of thinking about buying a Scar 17H this year, but I'm thinking I'm going to save up for one of these instead.

Swiss ZFK55 sniper rifle with a Kern scope. Able to put a 7.5MM Swiss round into the retina of whoever you want within 1k meters.:D:cool:

A few guys on the Swiss rifle forum have these bad boys and they are just sick accurate. I was thinking about doing a 1k meter plus shooting school out west and I can't think of a better long range piece than a ZFK55.

Or A Swiss Luger. The prices are going nuts on these things so I think I'm going to just concentrate on collecting the Swiss firearms since they are so nice and well made.

Only Hattie would post a topic like this ;)
You will never go wrong going Swiss, except if you fly with Swissair.

Or trying to record an album on the shore of Lake Geneva. :D:

That was one very well built, very accurate flare gun...

You can find some nice, finely crafted sporters based upon the Schmidt-Rubin design, mostly by Suhl gunsmiths.

I like it, but for that distance it might not be my first choice. I'm not saying 1000 yard shots can't be done with it, I used to know a guy who shot that distance with his Mosin Nagant using only it's little 4X scope. I don't think I am a good enough marksman to take anything past 500 yards. Too much math. That being said for long distance I have a Savage 300 WSM with a nice Nikon Monarch. It always gets the job done, but just in case I have my FNAR with twenty round mags and a 10-40X zoom :o

What's the cost on such a rifle?

LaRondo 04-09-2012 09:02 AM

I almost picked up a Vanguard SubMOA in .223 and in another opportunity a Remington 700 in .308. This one was a 26" bbl varmint model. Both Bell & Carlson stocks, which would be the stock of choice for any future rifle I may consider. I don't think accuracy is in question with those. It will be yourself or the ammo.

$3,500-$4,500 depending on the market and example. The Swiss only made a few of them, and only a few of those made it stateside.

Putting a bullet into a small target is only party due to the tool in hand.

Hatterasguy 04-09-2012 10:25 PM

Well its fun to learn how to use different "tools"!:P:cool:

If I had a spare $100k sitting around I would be learning how to shoot a full auto Browning M2 as well.

Botnst 04-09-2012 10:33 PM

Like many boys in the rural south, I learned to shoot with a single shot .22 rifle. The theory being that one is parsimonious with ammunition when reloading is a PITA. What happened with me is it slowed my reaction time. I am so inculcated in making every shot count that I cannot spray and pray. That's great for ambush but sucks for stalking. But I like stalking a lot more than ambush because I like to figure out how to set-up a good opportunity. Most of the time I fail and mostly the reason is that I can't snap-shoot worth a crap. I'm not worth a poop within 20 yds but I'm more than adequate after 150 yds. My ability declines sharply after 300. Like Dirty Harry said, "A man's gotta know his limitations."

Hatterasguy 04-09-2012 10:40 PM

I like firearms with lots of rounds, I figure if the first bullet doesn't hit what I want, the next 29, or 199 in the case of a belt probably will.:D

E150GT 04-09-2012 11:28 PM

Thats a lot of cashola. I think I'd get a good mauser and spend some cash on a scope. I wanted to build an awesome long range rifle but it costs a lot and I don't have a place to shoot it.
