I have two anoles now, my grandsons brought another from Florida when they all moved back here. Now one of them has some sort of crud on his nose which appears to be eating the skin off. It runs all the way to his eye. Anybody know what this might be and how to cure it?

The crud crept back until it took his eye. Then one day it stopped taking more terrirory and finally his skin began to grow back.

I kept thinking he would die but he is still going strong. He has healed back and now has skin all along his head out to his nose again. The right eye is gone but looks as if it might actually grow back and his left eye has become about half again as large as it was but seems to work ok.

He still can catch crickets just fine; he just tilts his head a bit and uses the one eye. He has shed his skin about a dozen times since he got the infection crud.

I find it fascinating and a bit astonishing that he survived it.

That anole finally died of old age and I replaced him. Today i was looking at him changing from brown to green and wondered what triggers it in him. His eyes? If his eyes were covered would he still change color?

I had no idea these things lived that long! They're everywhere around here, as a kid my sister and I would hang them on our ears. We'd catch them by the dozens down in Corpus!

Careful you might be banned!

Like a lot of creatures they live a lot longer in my little aquarium with steady food, water and an occasional cage cleaning.

I'm taking seven or so drugs at the moment for a bad case of bronchitis. Slept without interruption from 1230 to 5 am, now am not sleepy but will go back to sleep shortly after dosing up on some meds and letting it all soak in for a while.

Of course continue research on the internet but I think they also eat the live meely/grub worms that the pet store sells.

Its true, but you have to be careful with them as they die quickly if left out in the heat of the lizard cage. They make a nasty mess. If you feed them one or two at a time to the lizard and wait until they are eaten you are ok.

Just didn't want to get into having a bunch of bee moth hatching in the house.
