Anyone ever tear a rotator cuff?

I don't think mine is torn but I badly strained muscles in my shoulder. I have a difficult time raising my arm in front of me anything over chest level. It happened at work and I had it checked out. 3 days later and I am starting to fell a little better.

I did 3 years ago.
Xray doesnt show anything.
High resolution ultra sound will show if a ganglion has formed.
MRI is a good idea.
Biggest problem is possibility of a frozen shoulder ~ hurts like hell !!
You need to keep it moving. Avoid load bearing on it.

Did any bone on bone impact occur? If it did you may have ostiophytes form in a few months on the impact sites. This can damage tendons as you start moving it more. happened to me.
Had a series of steroid injections into the joint. ~ waste of time!
Ended up with surgery 18 months after injury ~ drained/removed ganglion, removed ostiophytes, took about 1/2" off the end of collar bone cleaned up a bit of post trauma arthritis & repaired main tendon.

Inflamed bursar can also occur, often called bursitis. I havent had this occur. Have been told it also is very painful.
Anti inflamitories are good. I have found Mobic to be the best. It doesnt mess with your gut like others.

Good luck !!

Wow. You are starting to scare me a little.

About 20 years ago (about 18 yrs old) I was swimming and popped the said shoulder out of socket. It went right back in and I dealt with pain for almost a week.

Never had any problems until a few years ago when I started to feel some popping and what felt like arthritis. Then on Sunday while at work I was lifting something heavy from overhead. I didn't feel any pop but a few minutes later started to feel pain. I have been applying heat when at home and Icy Hot while at work. Doing exercises when I can. It is feeling a little better. (I can reach the ignition key on the Benz with less pain.)

Going to keep doing what I am doing but I am worried about what the future holds.

It's called getting old my man. My right rotator has been wore out for years and is very painful. I wore out my rotator cuff by yanking my crank everyday for the last 35+ years.

Howdy,

Just got my shoulder fixed and I am on my 2nd week of recovery. Rotator Cuff, "boring" a 1/4" channel thru the bursa (Whatever that is) (LOL), a few muscles fixed, and a marked improvement in so far as the pain is concerned. Did my left shoulder in May 2010 and now my right. I traveled to TN from Columbia, SC for the surgery. Well worth it to get fixed. I got sick and tired of the super long and thick needles for the injections, plus they only lasted a month at best and hurt like hell. If you get the surgery, you will need a few weeks of true down time, and a few weeks of PT just to get it moving. I highly recommend my surgeon. He's the best. And yes, it is part of being old and having prior injuries. The old part sucks the most .... LOL.

No, but I thought I did, true diagnosis revealed I tore the glenoid labrum off the scapula (just a touch worse that a rotator cuff tear). Damn good surgeon got me put back together and only lost complete use of my right arm for 8 weeks followed by a whole bunch of physical therapy.

If you're reading this Medmech, say Hey to my surgeon when you see him.
