May have found my next car...

Was given info on an 04 Dodge Viper SRT10.

It's supercharged and is making 750hp....

Thoughts? (I'm open to any/all thoughts, even if it's something along he lines of "your crazy and might kill yourself"....

The frequent comment about the Viper is "Stupid Fast" . . . much like the original Cobra 427 or the early big block Vettes. In the hands of a talented driver, it's brute strength from the V10 easily beat pricier supercars around Nurburgring . . . but it was prehistoric in the way it did it.

If you were looking at the first generation Viper, I would think you are totally mental. Those things were little better than kit cars with a giant power plant. I drove one and hated it. No thought of cabin comfort, build quality, and handling was blah.

From what I've read but never experienced, the second generation is much more versatile and livable. Quite a bargain considering the performance numbers it puts out. The interior actually looks quality and not out of a Dodge Neon and Miata had a baby like the previous one.

Forget it.

Get laid.

I still remember seeing the first Viper back in Amsterdam. Was blown away, never had seen anything like it.

Years later in LA I saw a Viper on Melrose with a huge red bow on top of it, it was a present for this young girl from her boyfriend; wandering if she's still alive...

The first Viper to come to Australia was one brought out for our Bathurst 1000 race (600 miles on public roads).
It was total garbage.
Emptied its diff oil on the track & only did a fraction of the race.
Its brakes were not up to the task.
It was all show, not enough go & little woe.
It should have been painted pink!!
It never attempted the race again.
Sent home with its tail between its legs.
The Aussie muscle cars had it for breakfast !

Given Clarkson is neither an Engineer or a Mechanic, his technical ability is best described by his comment about muscle cars. The ford they were looking at dates back to the 1960's. Most high hp cars back then had leaf springs.

Its one thing to have power, its another thing to be able to deliver it to the road for an extended period.

Do you mean like at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1998, 1999 and 2000? GT2 Champion? How many Australian "muscle cars" have done that?

Not to mention that leaf springs don't necessarily mean junk handling. Top Gear is an entertaining show but I always assume they are lying about pretty much everything to make the show funnier/more interesting.

He is right, the muscle cars from the 60's were poorly built, drove poorly, but they had big motors and could light up the skinny bias ply rear tires pretty well.

Hampster is the muscle car fan on Topgear.
