I want a new car .....

Fellas
What to look for ? Is there a model to "just stay away from " ?

I need a second car, my f150 is the primary go to work vehicle and I 'd like to have something sporty ,fun and safe. Also into this mix is a 17 year old , responsible girl who would have access to the car.
I havent gotten any sense of insurance cost yet ,will do that today.

Maintenance cost and overall expectations is what I'm hoping to get some feedback on

I d like to spend 7.5 t0 9 could go up to 12k

Love the looks of this one

2000 Mercedes Benz S500 107k STATE INSPECTED

2000 S500v w220 parktronic, lane assist, distronic cruise, heated rear seats shades, navigation, wood steering wheel, 4 brand new 255/45r17 tires on 05 sl500 wheels, new front and rear drilled rotors and pads, 107k miles, new battery Md State Inspected. passed emissions, clean title, some peeling paint on front bumper private owner $7500 410961 4546

REALLY like the looks of these
2002 CL 500 Mercedes Benz - $10375 (Baltimore)
2002 CL 500 Mercedes Benz

but perhaps this is more the reality .....
2007 Volvo XC70, Excellent Condition. - $15000 (Arlington, VA)
2007 Volvo XC70, Excellent Condition.

Thanks

For the 17 year old girl--
a Checker Marathon. Safety in sheer bulk.

I was always under the impression that early W220's eat their owners alive in regard to maintenance...

I wouldn't want to insure a 17 year old on something with a V8.

You've only got a year, when she turns 18, take her and the title to the car to MVD and sign it over to her and tell her she needs to get her own insurance. Your rates will go way down.

A kid's first car should be at least 10 years old and under $2k, in my opinion.

A stock 90's v6 camry will surprise you in terms of reliability and speed. I was in charge of a '94 4 cylinder and it was great-took turns well and required pretty much no maintenance.

First car?

For A 17 y o female, new driver, buy her a 1985-1990 Volvo 240 station wagon. Durable safe and slow with the 112 hp engine.

And tell you MUST tell her that if she EVER talks or texts on a cell phone while driving and gets caught, she is grounded for a MONTH

2nd offense, the car keys are taken back the car is GONE --- and she is walking, on a bicycle or the bus effective immediately.

"A firm hand is needed early on."

Good luck.

Especially, with the air suspension. I know someone with one and it bleeds money from him.

Agreed, all three of my kids cut their driving teeth on our 1986 Volvo 240 wagon.

I have air on my E55 and it works fine.

Are you sure it's air, or is it ABC?

Amen. I know when I was 17 I didn't want to insure MYSELF on anything with a V8 - it just cost too bloody much. First car I bought brand new at 20 was a 79 Mustang hatchback - with the 2.8 V6. I would have been able to file rape charges for what the insurance premiums would have been for one with a 302 V8 in it.

I've got a nice, rust free 94 S320 that I'll be putting on ebay for a friend of mine this weekend. He only wants $5500 for it. Good driving car with a paint job that is not over 3 years old. I'll even drive it to you for a plane ticket back to GA.
