More EBay stupidity

I sell a Mac that's clearly marked FOR PARTS and HARD DRIVE REMOVED on EBay. Mail it out, didn't hear anything back from the buyer, then the buyer decides to leave bad feedback claiming "gross misrepresentation." Without contacting me first to complain or attempt to resolve the issue, despite that my phone # is in the auction and he can e-mail me through EBay as well.

I look at the guy's profile and he's left two negative and two neutral feedback ratings out of 28 in the last six months, and even his positive feedback ratings complain about stuff. Either he's trying to get stuff for free (i.e. scammer), or the little schmuck doesn't actually read the descriptions of what he's bidding on.

This has happened to me twice in the past couple of years -- seems like the cretin quotient on EBay has gone way up recently. If you're buying something on EBay, *contact the seller* before leaving bad feedback. We're human. We'll try to help!

I contacted the seller to try to resolve this.

Update: I sold the computer non-working for parts, and I had removed the cover to remove the hard drive. The son of an Okie whore is claiming that I disassembled the computer "sloppily" because I removed the cover screws and left them in an envelope. I figured that since it was for parts, the next buyer would need to disassemble it again, and that would make it easier.

He is demanding a "full or substantial" refund. I offered him $10 of good faith money. He's also complaining that only one RAM slot is full, which is correct -- the computer's RAM had been upgraded using a single SIM. And in fact, when you buy them from Apple, they only have one slot full.

I hear you man. I just had an auction end for my Blackberry on sunday and I have not been paid or heard from the buyer. I sent a message today pretty much saying if I dont hear from you I am going to assume you do not want the item and I will relist it. I get an immediate response with the worst possible grammar ever wanting me to wait until friday to get paid. I was leary about the buyer not having any feedback or history but now their language just scares me. I have a feeling I will get burned with this fellow.

I sell stuff on Ebay now and then. Mostly Mercedes parts that I have no use for anymore. So far I have been very lucky but then I provide a description that usually takes up to an hour to write. I am in a situation where I can either sell the stuff for Ebay prices or throw it away, so I sell it. Then I look for silly stuff to buy. Like more Mercedes stuff!

If anyone complains then I ask them to point out where I was wrong. If someone does not pay then I contact them several times and even offer to forget the whole thing. Then I just turn them over to Ebay.

My only solution is to describe the bejebers out of an item but I know that is unrealistic for anyone who is trying to turn a real dollar offering stuff that someone out there needs.

Some people are just more trouble than they are worth. I learned this when I was 16 and working at a gas station.

Some people are just jerks. If they are being jerks for a reason... That I can understand. But just to be a Jerk?

Their is a new breed out there that you run across once in awhile. I have no ideal what hole in the ground they crawled out of.

Bad or unreasonable behaviour is one of their their specialties..No really reasoning with them usually either.

One thing that really helps is pictures. 2500+ Auction Templates, Image Hosting & Listing Tools - SellerSourcebook.com for $8 a month gives the opportunity to add 20 or so pics per listing. Their customer service actually does care about customers too.

LOL

I agree, I do think ppl are getting nuttier and nuttier.

I just had one where I clearly stated in the ebay ad that the shipping cost would be calculated based on where the item was going. Well the yahoo bought it and then just paid what ebay calculated (a screwy feature if you ask me). Anyway, He shorted me about $33 shipping cost and would not pay it.

I sold a regulator/motor. It was clearly stamped L on the metal. DB leaves me bad feedback. He tells me first that it is the wrong side. So I tell him to look at the stamp. Then he tells me it doesn't fit his car and sends it back. Of course the car he tells me it was for was the exact model and year I pulled it from.

I've learned selling on eBay, not to tempt the scammers.

Don't chance it, make sure when listing an item that shipping will be calculated correctly or there is a flat price(s) that will cover the entire shipping area.
Also, don't count on having a lot of bids. Stat bidding where you'll be comfortable selling if you only get one bid.

I also don't fuss with non/slow payers anymore. I send another invoice after a day or so & if I still have not received payment after four days (and have not agreed with the buyer to cancel), I then open a non-payment case with eBay & re-list the item. If you don't report the DB bidders you will be out the final value/listing fees for the item!

As for getting negative feedback for an item accurately described, I'd leave a feedback response & leave it at that. If they weren't able to message you to resolve any issues they had (like a reasonable human being), you should assume your not going to get anywhere on having them revise the feedback they left & then you open yourself to outlandish requests (I want it FREE!). Not worth the headache, just have to try to move on.

If the guy doesn't retract the feedback, I plan to post his name, address, phone, and email on a "bad EBay buyer" site. Sellers lost the ability to complain about buyers in feedback in 2008, but that doesn't keep people from posting user ID's and personal info on other sites.

Yes, you no longer can give neg feedback to buyers.

You can still respond to feedback with facts though, so people know your side.
Also, don't forget to add the DB's to your blocked bidder list!

This happened to me recently with a car. Guy wins the auction, then sends an email offering way less money than his winning bid, never pays the deposit, and never directly responds to a single email from me.

Ultimately sold the car on craigslist for twice the money, left the guy positive feedback with a negative comment.

The whole negative feedback thing only for sellers is BS. Ebay could have come up with a dozen other solutions, but that unilateral decision was stupid.
