Man loses $22,000 in Policing for Profit

be sure and watch the video and listen carefully to the the answers given to the questions asked by the interviewer. obviously, one should carry only plastic when out on the road. out-of-state license plates didn't help him either.

"and he couldn't prove that it was legitimate."

Wow. Not arrested, not charged with crime, so I guess "innocent until proven guilty" doesn't apply.

That's appalling.

This is old news. Small towns all over do this all the time.

The old line is you get busted for anything, say speeding, oh you have to pay the fine how much do you have on you? Worst mistake is being honest, because they are going to take all the cash you have, say the fine is paid and your on your way.

If a cop asks if you have any money on you say no.

Yes, it is appalling.
But-- cops and the system in Tennessee need money and the best source is out-of-state people who work for a living.

If I were that fellow, I believe, once I had the check folded and put in my pocket, before leaving I'd announce to the po-leese that I was headed to the nearest bank to cash their check and it was my intention to drive clear across their dumb-ass state with the money rolled up and rubber banded in thousand lot rolls and stuffed under the seat of my car and they could kiss my rosy red ass if they didn't like it.

Good grammar there. Did the pig learn to speak English at Cleetus Mouthbreather High? Sadly, if his department makes a habit of robbing passers-by, he won't likely be driving an older Crown Vic aka Zippo.

We have a section of interstate running through our county and the money that the sheriffs department takes in off of it is by far the biggest income for the county. They put over $1mil/year into the county budget just from tickets off of the interstate. There is absolutely no industry in the county.

They do let you run up to 84 mph (70 is the limit) before they will pull you over unless you fit a certain "profile".

There is a small town between Jax. Fla. and Gainsville Fla. has no industry at all except giving traffic tickets to almost everyone that travels through the town. Some of the first Mustang 5,0's was their car of choice.

New Rome, Ohio - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

There was a town like that in Ohio. It basically got euthanized by a state judge and its assets were given to a neighboring village.

Oh hell yes. Just what I was thinking. What, if you tell them you're carrying maybe $100 and plastic and you have no bags of drugs showing they're going to search your vehicle?

three mistakes; one, carrying large sums of cash and admitting to it, second, consenting to a search and three, driving with out of state plates. Taking cash in the name of fighting illegal drugs seems to be standard procedure. A credit card or bank cheque can legally only be used by the holder, while cash works for whoever happens to possess it. He's lucky he got his money back for there are some jurisdictions where it would have simply disappeared.

Never consent to a search. Never. Make them go get a warrant.

Everyone should carry cash, then file suit if it's stolen. If police depts know that they'll be slapped with a suit of they steal, they may learn not to do it. Basically make it very expensive for cops to rob people.
